Chapter 61 Investors and Schemes

Selene arranged a meeting with a few CEOs to discuss investment opportunities.

They met for dinner at Javerton’s most famous restaurant, Hometaste Restaurant.

The moment those executives heard Selene was starting a music company and wanted them to invest, their interest immediately waned.

Sure, Selene had been a high-level executive before-but that still made her just a senior employee. She’d never started a business before, and they weren’t about to throw money at a first-time founder just because she asked.

At first, they planned to brush Selene off with a few polite words and leave early.

But then Estella showed up-young, beautiful—and suddenly they were in no rush to go. They stayed and began chatting with her instead.

Seeing them stick around to hear her out, Selene thought they were genuinely interested in her pitch and eagerly toasted each of them.

The more tipsy she became, the more their attention shifted to Estella.

Mr. Fred, seated next to Estella, took the chance to slide his hand over hers. “Ms. Estella, you’ve been so quiet tonight. Hardly touched your wine. Are you looking down on us? Come, let me toast you.”

Estella calmly pulled her hand back.

She didn’t want to see Selene keep drinking like this, so she picked up her glass and accepted Mr. Fred’s toast.

But Estella couldn’t hold her liquor. Even half a glass upset her stomach.

Seeing her discomfort, Mr. Fred leaned in and stroked her cheek. “Not much of a drinker, huh? Barely half a glass and you’re already struggling? Want to take a break?”

Selene knew Estella wasn’t good at socializing, and Mr. Fred had been getting handsy all night. She quickly stepped in. “Estella doesn’t really drink, sorry about that, Mr. Fred. Estella, why don’t you go

you go wash your face?”

Estella glanced at Selene, reluctant to leave her alone.

But Selene gave her a gentle nudge. “Go on.”

So Estella stepped out of the private room.

Just as she did, the door across the hall opened.

Out walked someone very familiar.

It was Jeremy.

Estella recognized him and gave him a polite smile.

Then she headed toward the restroom.

Jeremy glanced toward Selene’s private room, then stepped into the hallway and called Jonathan.

“I just ran into Estella at Hometaste Restaurant. She’s drinking with a bunch of executives. Don’t you want to come take a look?”

Jonathan frowned and called Lana.

Lana, who was close with Selene, quickly filled him in. “Selene and Estella are starting a business. They probably don’t have enough funds, so they’re trying to raise money.”

That explained why Estella was entertaining investors tonight.

Jonathan texted Jeremy: “Who else is there tonight?”

Jeremy passed by Selene’s room again, snapped a photo, and sent it to Jonathan.

Jonathan happened to be on good terms with Mr. Harvey, one of the men at the table.

He immediately messaged Mr. Harvey: “Promise Selene the investment. I’ll handle your Hawks family lawsuit.”

Mr. Harvey had been feeling a little tipsy. When he saw the word “lawsuit,” he instantly sobered

He had no idea how Jonathan knew about his situation, but this was a golden opportunity. Getting Jonathan-one of the most sought-after figures in Javerton-to take on your legal case was like winning the lottery. Even with their minor connection, he usually would’ve had to wait in line like everyone else.

Now that Jonathan had offered, there was no way he was going to miss this chance.

By the time Estella returned from the restroom, Selene was shaking hands and laughing with Mr. Harvey.

“What happened?” Estella asked.

Selene lowered her voice. “Mr. Harvey just agreed to invest three million.”

Estella was thrilled and toasted Mr. Harvey herself.

News of Selene and Estella’s startup quickly reached Nathaniel as well.

He sat in his office, eyes glinting sharply.
