In the past. Jonathan had always been cold to her, refusing to give her even the slightest
attention.
But this time-this time he had actually invited her into his office.
Wendy was filled with surprise and disbelief. She could hardly trust her ears.
Could it be that, after all this time and effort, Jonathan was finally moved by her sincerity? Was he finally ready to let her in?
With her heart brimming with joy and anticipation, Wendy stepped into the office.
The moment she walked through the door, she eagerly pulled out the insulated thermos she’d prepared and beamed brightly.
“Jonathan, I made this apple juice just for you! I heard it used to be your favorite, so I went and learned how to make it. Try it-see if it tastes just like you remember!”
She gently offered him the thermos, eyes glowing with tenderness and hope.
But Jonathan didn’t take it. He didn’t even glance at the steaming juice.
Sitting coldly at his desk, he said in a flat tone, “Sit down. I have something I want to show you.”
Wendy’s heart gave a sharp jolt, but she quickly comforted herself. Maybe this was Jonathan’s way of surprising her.
Forcing down her nervousness, she obediently sat down, still smiling brightly.
Jonathan turned on his computer and began playing a surveillance video.
As the footage came into focus, the smile froze on Wendy’s face.
It was a recording of the night she had locked Estella inside the office.
Seeing Jonathan’s cold, expressionless face, panic surged through Wendy. She hurried to explain.
“It’s not what you think, Jonathan! Estella and I had a disagreement-she suddenly went crazy and tried to hit me! I didn’t know what else to do, so I… Jonathan, we’ve known each other for years. You know what kind of person I am, don’t you?”
But Jonathan remained unmoved.

“I only believe in evidence,” he said coolly. “Wendy, go apologize to Estella. Try to earn her forgiveness. Then, you’d better leave Javerton immediately and never come back. If you don’t, I’ll file charges against you for intentional harm-as Estella’s legal representative.”
Wendy was stunned. Her eyes went wide, her face frozen in disbelief.
It took her a long time to finally speak, her lips trembling.
“W-What? You’re going to sue me? Jonathan, you know how I’ve always felt about you. How can you treat me like this?”
Jonathan stood, his tone icy.
“If not for your father’s sake, I would’ve already filed the charges.”
With that, he turned and walked away without a second glance, leaving Wendy frozen in place, unable to move.
That evening, Jonathan hesitated for a long time before finally calling Estella.
“Want to have dinner?” He wanted to talk to her about Wendy.
After all, Wendy had hurt Estella because of him.
Estella’s injuries hadn’t healed yet. She didn’t want to see Jonathan while she still looked so disheveled.
“I’m not up for it today. Maybe in a few days.”
Jonathan thought she was still unsure about whether to return to her ex-husband. A strange ache pricked at his chest.
His voice cooled slightly. “Alright.”
After hanging up, Jonathan opened a drawer and took out a small box.
Inside was a necklace,
He had meant to give it to Estella long ago-but never got the chance.
He placed the necklace back in the drawer and returned to his work.
It wasn’t until eleven at night that he finally left the law firm.
He had just stepped out of the building and hadn’t walked far when the roar of a car engine suddenly tore through the night.
