Jonathan noted the license plate before turning his attention to the person who had fallen with him.

When he saw the face clearly, he paused in surprise-it was Wendy.

Her face was ghostly pale, sweat beading across her forehead, and she looked utterly drained.

She bit her lip and said in a trembling voice, “Jonathan, my knee… I think it’s broken. It hurts so much…”

Seeing her in pain, Jonathan didn’t hesitate―he immediately pulled out his phone and dialed

Once at the hospital, Wendy was rushed into the emergency room.

After a series of examinations, the diagnosis was clear-severe fractures in both her lower leg and knee. Surgery was required right away to repair the damage.

Jonathan signed the consent forms and waited outside the operating room.

While the minutes crawled by, he didn’t sit idly. He had someone pull the building’s surveillance footage and began tracking down the car by its plate number.

Finally, the red light above the operating room clicked off. The surgery was over.

Jonathan quickly stepped forward and asked the lead surgeon about Wendy’s condition.

The doctor removed his mask and reassured him. “The operation went very well. As long as she recovers properly, there shouldn’t be any major issues. Just make sure she receives good post- op care and watch for infection or complications.”

Jonathan let out a slow breath of relief and thanked the doctor sincerely.

He stayed at the hospital, waiting for Wendy to wake,

Before long, the anesthesia began to wear off, and Wendy slowly opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was Jonathan by her bedside-and her face lit up with joy, like all her pain had vanished.

“Jonathan, thank God! I’m so glad you’re alright.”

Jonathan looked at her. His gaze was no longer as icy as before, but there was still distance in

his eyes.

After a pause, he spoke in a low voice. “I have things to take care of tomorrow, so I won’t be able to stay tonight. But I’ve already arranged for a nurse to look after you. I gave her all the details -she’ll take good care of you. I’ll cover all your medical and care expenses.”

With that, he turned to leave.

But Wendy wasn’t about to let him go so easily. She suddenly sat up in bed, ignoring her pain, and cried out, “Jonathan! I got hurt so badly because of you, and now you’re just going to leave me like this? I don’t want a nurse! No one could take better care of me than you! I just want you to stay with me…’

“”

As she spoke, tears began to shimmer in her eyes, ready to fall.

Hearing her emotional plea, Jonathan stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around.

His expression was calm, like a still lake, giving nothing away.

He simply stared at Wendy without saying a word.

Then, as if a thought struck her, Wendy blurted out, “Oh-Jonathan! I saved your life today, didn’t I? Doesn’t that mean you owe me something in return?”

Her large, watery eyes looked at him expectantly.

Jonathan had always believed in repaying kindness.

No matter how big or small the favor, he never forgot it-and he always paid it back generously.

He looked at her and asked, “If that’s what you want-fine. Just say what you’re after. Do you want financial compensation? Something else? As long as it’s within my power, I’ll do what I can.”

At that, a sly smile crept across Wendy’s lips.

Slowly, she said, “What if… what I want is you?”

As a wealthy heiress, Wendy had never lacked money or power.
