The silence on the other end of the line felt like a net, settling gently over Danielle.
Her fingertips grew cold around the phone, the only sound in her ears her own steady breathing. For a long moment, there was nothing—until Rebecca’s voice cut through the hush, calm and uncannily perceptive.
“You care about him, don’t you, Danielle?”
Rebecca’s tone was utterly even, but her words slipped beneath Danielle’s defenses like a needle, pricking at the uncertainty she tried to hide. “If you’re asking me for answers, if you still want to know how he’s doing, then you haven’t really let go. Not completely.”
“If I tell you what you want to know, are you both going to fall back into that endless, tangled mess?”
Danielle swallowed hard, ready to protest, but the words stuck somewhere in her throat. She couldn’t deny it—not when her heart had clenched so painfully at the mention of the car accident. Not when her fingers had trembled as she scrolled through her contacts, searching for Rebecca’s number.
But she also knew she’d made her decision. She was leaving Northridge City for good, taking Niki with her, ready to say goodbye to everything connected to the past.
“He’s my patient. His emotional well-being is more important than anything.”
Rebecca paused, her voice taking on the grave authority of a doctor. “You know he’s been ill. For years, he’s relied on medication and therapy just to keep himself together.”
“If you can’t even define what the two of you are—one moment insisting you’re done, the next chasing after news about him—then don’t come to me for answers.”
“Ask yourself what you really want. Do you honestly want to cut him off, or do you just want an excuse to keep looking back?”
Danielle drew in a deep breath, forcing down the chaos inside. When she spoke, her voice was steadier.
“I’m not trying to get entangled again. But if his accident has anything to do with me, I need to know what happened next.”
“I’m not someone who runs from responsibility. If I played any part in this, I can’t let him face the consequences alone.”

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
