“So you’re saying Noelle had a breakdown because people called her a homewrecker, and that’s why all this happened?”
She nodded toward the bloodstain on the floor, her voice steady and flat.
Landon opened his mouth, hesitated, then finally gave a silent nod.
Quickly, as if afraid she’d misunderstand, he added, “I know it’s not your fault.”
But Zinnia turned her head, considering for a moment before she replied, “It’s not entirely unrelated. Noelle was called a homewrecker because of me.”
There was no hint of guilt or anxiety in her tone—just calm acceptance, as if she almost wanted Landon to believe her.
Landon stared at her, stunned, as she picked up her phone, opened his WhatsApp contact, and sent him a video.
“I got this from the hospital. Noelle was really shaken up.”
With that, she turned and walked toward the terrace.
She hoped that, after seeing the video, Landon would understand just how much Noelle had suffered—how deeply she’d been misunderstood, and that Zinnia herself had deliberately pushed strangers to attack Noelle. She wanted him to know Noelle’s breakdown was her doing, that he’d nearly ruined his right hand because of it.
Surely, if Noelle meant that much to him, he’d ask for an early divorce. Even if their marriage contract only had two months left, Zinnia found even that short time hard to bear.
She slid open the terrace door and stepped outside—then froze.
Snow still drifted down, quietly covering the battered remnants of her garden, masking the wreckage.
It also covered the last shreds of her ten years with Landon, so she wouldn’t have to see just how pitiful her ending was.
She always imagined she’d be furious if this ever happened. But standing there, Zinnia felt surprisingly calm. Maybe even relieved.
It was as if, with her garden gone, the last tie binding her to this place had finally snapped.
The snow was falling harder. When Zinnia didn’t come back inside, Landon started to worry. He pushed open the terrace door, calling, “It’s freezing out—come back—”
But the words caught in his throat as he saw the devastation before him.
