“Yes… Mrs. Ford.”
The HR manager forced the words out, bracing himself.
He’d known, the moment he met this woman, that something was off—she wasn’t exactly subtle about her intentions. But he also couldn’t say no to Mrs. Ford, so he’d hired her anyway, just as Mrs. Ford requested.
And, again per Mrs. Ford’s instructions, he’d assigned her to the executive office as an administrative assistant.
Who could’ve guessed she’d stir up trouble on her very first day?
Meanwhile, Yvonne—who already knew Noelle wasn’t actually the boss’s wife—rubbed her face in exasperation, her eyes filled with fresh sympathy for the doomed HR manager.
Out of a sense of camaraderie, Yvonne leaned over and quietly reminded him, “Mr. Brown, that woman… she’s not Mrs. Ford.”
“What?” The HR manager stared at her, dumbfounded, blurting out, “But if that’s true, why didn’t she deny it when everyone called her Mrs. Ford?”
At that, Yvonne gave a tight, awkward smile.
Landon, who’d sensed something was off, fixed his sharp gaze on the HR manager. “What do you mean by that?”
Mr. Brown glanced toward the woman in question, who was now as pale as a ghost.
Covering her mouth, she started sobbing, her voice trembling as she tried to explain, “Sir, I… Noelle introduced me.”
She was a die-hard Noelle fan, fresh out of college and struggling to find a job in Veridian City.
She’d been one of the first to recognize the man in Noelle’s viral video as Mr. Ford, CEO of the Ford Group. On a whim, she’d asked Noelle if she could maybe put in a good word for her and get her a job at Ford Group.
To her astonishment, Noelle had agreed almost immediately.
Noelle even told her he’d never dare refuse her anything.
Just two days later, the offer from Ford Group landed in her inbox.
And not just any job—she’d been placed in the executive office.
That meant she could see the CEO every day.
