Although Rosalie sounded utterly convinced, Juniper still felt uneasy about the whole thing. Yet, watching the eager expressions on his wife and daughter’s faces, he ultimately kept his doubts to himself.
After all, if things really went the way they hoped—if he could become Landon’s father-in-law—it would be the best thing that could happen to them.
With that, the Jensen family would surely rise to a whole new level.
The three of them were still making plans for the future when, the very next day, they received a call from Veridian University Medical Center.
The hospital said they’d already figured out the cause of Xander’s blood clot and asked them to come in to discuss what should happen next.
After hanging up, Juniper spoke up, uncertainty etched on his face.
“They figured it out this quickly? Didn’t they say we’d get an answer in three days?”
At that, Noelle let out a cold, dismissive laugh.
“There’s no way they actually know. They probably just tossed out some excuse to brush us off.”
“Zephyr is Zinnia’s mentor—he’ll definitely do whatever he can to protect her. Dad, you absolutely cannot just let it go. We need to make sure the hospital gives us an explanation we’re satisfied with.”
Seeing the confidence in his daughter’s eyes, Juniper still hesitated.
“Noelle, how can you be so sure they won’t figure it out?”
“Because—”
Noelle caught herself just in time, almost letting something slip. She covered quickly:
“Isn’t it obvious? All those medical experts said Xander’s medication dosage was too low, so of course the blame falls on the hospital. Zinnia was his doctor—she prescribed the medicine and treated him. No matter how you spin it, she can’t avoid responsibility.”
Besides, she’d been so careful when she did what she did—there was no way the hospital would ever find out the real reason.
Juniper considered her logic and had to admit it made sense.
“All right, we’ll do as you say. We’ll go to the hospital, and even if Zephyr tries to use the Locke family to pressure us, we won’t back down.”
