Zinnia had no idea what had gotten into Landon this time. She was about to tell him to order for himself when he suddenly said, “I’m worried about leaving Grandpa alone in the private room. I’ll go check on him first.”
With that, he turned and strode off.
Left with no choice, Zinnia turned back to the server and ordered a few dishes.
“That’ll be all.”
“Very well, ma’am. If you have no other requests, I’ll send the order to the kitchen right away.”
“Thank you.”
Once the server left, Zinnia made her way back to the private room.
Inside, Landon was sitting next to Zane, quietly enduring a lecture. The moment Zinnia returned, Zane’s look of mild exasperation toward Landon vanished, replaced by a warm, grandfatherly smile. His ability to switch expressions so quickly made even Landon raise an eyebrow in silent awe.
“Zinnia, did you order?”
“Yes, I picked a few things. I hope they suit your taste, Grandpa.”
Zinnia took the seat on Zane’s left. Landon’s gaze lingered on her, silent and unreadable. Zane, on the other hand, looked delighted. “Anything you order is bound to be just what I like, Zinnia.”
He chuckled, the sound clear and bright. “Work must be winding down for the holidays, isn’t it?” he asked, turning to Landon.
Landon nodded. “Yes, Grandpa. After the company party in a couple of days, some of the out-of-town staff will start heading home for Christmas.”
As he spoke, Landon glanced at Zinnia, his eyes dropping to the table, lost in thought.
While grandfather and grandson discussed business, Zinnia sat quietly to the side, not interrupting.
