“Fine,” Landon muttered, clearly not thrilled, as he started the car and pulled away from the hospital.

They stopped outside an upscale seafood restaurant, the kind with valet parking and glittering glass windows. Once inside, they were led to a private dining room. As soon as the door closed behind them, Landon turned to the older man.

“Grandpa, just wait here for a bit. I’ll go pick out the menu with Zinnia.”

This place prided itself on the freshest seafood—flown in daily from across the country and kept alive until you picked your meal. Guests could stroll through the display, choose what they wanted, and have it cooked to order.

“I—” Zinnia started to protest, but Landon had already grabbed her arm and steered her firmly out of the room.

“Let go. Don’t manhandle me,” she said in a low, annoyed voice, frowning as she tried to pull free.

Landon just gave a soft laugh, his grip unyielding. He looked her up and down, a smirk tugging at his lips.

“Manhandle you?” he echoed, deliberately sliding his hand across her arm in slow circles. “Trust me, this is nothing. If I really wanted to get handsy, you’d know.”

With that, he took a step closer, backing her into the corner of the corridor outside the private room.

“Refuse me one more time, and you won’t just be dealing with my hands,” he murmured, leaning down until his mouth was beside her ear. “I might have to use my mouth, too.”

His breath was warm, almost scorching, as it curled against her skin. Instinctively, Zinnia tried to shrink away, but the cold, unyielding wall at her back gave her nowhere to go.

She clenched her jaw, then lifted her chin and met Landon’s wicked gaze head-on. There was no trace of embarrassment or nerves in her eyes—just a clear, calm defiance. For someone usually so gentle, she was icy now.

She gave him a mocking little smile. “Mr. Ford, did you really just try to flirt with me like that? Where’d you pick up such a sleazy move?”
