No wonder Landon insisted on staying earlier; he must be worried that rumors could hurt the Ford Group’s reputation.

“If you’ve agreed to be Mrs. Ford, doesn’t that mean you have a responsibility to help me put out gossip that affects the Ford Group?” Landon’s eyes locked onto hers, his body inching closer.

He tilted her chin up with a gentle touch, his face lowering until his lips were just a breath away from hers.

But just as he was about to kiss her, Zinnia turned her head to the side and said, “Tell me what you need me to do. I’ll cooperate.”

She pressed a hand against his bare chest, pushing him back a little. “But as for what you were just about to do—Mr. Ford, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t try that again.”

With a firmer shove, she put more distance between them.

“I’ll step out. You should finish your shower.” With that, Zinnia hurried to the bathroom door, swung it open, and all but fled the room.

Her cheeks burned as she remembered the brief and rather eye-opening glimpse she’d caught of Landon’s body while pushing him away.

On the other side of the firmly shut door, Landon glanced down at his phone, unreadable emotion flickering in his eyes.

When Zinnia returned to the living room, Chandler and Zoey had already left at some point. She dropped onto the couch, exhausted.

The thought that rumors about her and Landon living apart had spread made her anxious all over again.

Lately, having Dapper around had helped her mood considerably. Plus, Landon had promised she could file for divorce as soon as their contract ended, which gave her a sense of relief.

But now, with trouble knocking at her door again, the anxiety she’d worked so hard to suppress came roaring back.

She got up, walked to the entryway, fished her medicine out of her bag, and poured a few pills into her hand. In the kitchen, she filled a glass of water and swallowed them.
