Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 231

Afraid that Dapper might hurt his injured ribs with any sudden movements, Zinnia quickly stepped forward to stop him.

“Easy, stay still. I’ll go open the door.”

Dapper seemed to understand and obediently curled up in Landon’s arms.

Zinnia walked to the door and opened it, letting Landon inside.

After Landon set Dapper down in his bed, he looked at Zinnia, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.

Zinnia poured him a glass of water and thanked him again.

“Thank you for taking care of Dapper today.”

Landon’s gaze lingered on her, silent for a long moment before he finally spoke, his voice low.

“Why are you always so formal with me?”

The more distant and polite Zinnia was, the more Landon felt her slipping away. The heaviness in his chest—the fear that she was about to leave him for good—made it hard to breathe.

Zinnia lowered her eyes. “You helped me with Dapper. It’s only right that I thank you.”

“But we’re married, aren’t we? We’re supposed to look out for each other. That’s what being partners means.”

Landon’s dark eyes were fixed on her as he spoke, his tone weighted with something unspoken.

Look out for each other. Be each other’s support…

Zinnia turned those words over in her mind, finding them unexpectedly bitter. If she kept going down this path, she knew exactly where the conversation would end up—questioning whether they were really a normal married couple at all.

So instead, she said nothing and walked over to sit on the couch.

A heavy silence settled over the living room, pressing in from all sides. Only the sound of Dapper playing with his toys kept the atmosphere from turning suffocating.

“Um…”

Zinnia broke the silence, her voice tinged with awkwardness.

“Yeah?” Landon looked up at her.

“You haven’t had dinner yet, have you?” she asked.
