“No way! I’m calling Landon right now and telling him to fire that scheming little tramp.”

As Noelle spoke, she whipped out her phone, ready to dial Landon’s number.

“Enough! Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough already?” Juniper snapped, his voice sharp as he stopped Noelle in her tracks.

“Will you please use your head for once? That’s the executive office of the Ford Group we’re talking about. Who would be stupid enough to risk their job over something like this? Obviously, Landon gave the order. Can’t you see that?”

Juniper’s words made Noelle’s face twist with anger for a split second before it drained pale.

“No. That’s impossible! Landon would never do this to us,” Noelle insisted, clenching her teeth, refusing to accept it.

“Exactly, darling. We haven’t done anything to offend Landon. And with Noelle’s relationship with him, why would he go out of his way to make things hard for us?” Rosalie chimed in, her voice anxious.

Juniper shot her a cold look. “Did you forget what you did?”

His words made both Rosalie and Noelle freeze, their expressions turning stiff.

“You mean… when I threw that dead dog down the well?” Rosalie asked uncertainly.

But before Juniper could reply, Noelle cut in, shaking her head in denial.

“No, that can’t be it. If it was because of that, why would Landon have gone to all the trouble to wipe Mom’s name off the trending lists? If he wanted to ruin her, wouldn’t it have been easier to just let her get ripped apart online?”

As much as Juniper disdained his daughter’s self-important thinking, he couldn’t really argue with her logic.

She was right. If Landon was upset about the dog incident, why did he spend a fortune to clean up their mess online?

Seeing her father at a loss, Noelle’s expression softened a bit and she continued, “Dad, there must be some other reason. Maybe your friend just wanted to scare you. Let’s just wait a bit longer—maybe the advance payment will come through tomorrow.”
