Landon had been in high spirits ever since Zinnia agreed to attend the anniversary gala. But, of course, Noelle just had to stir up trouble.

The smile vanished from Landon’s lips. His gaze turned cold and sharp as he shot a look at Noelle.

He was about to say something when Zinnia suddenly turned to him, still smiling, and asked, “What’s this? Is this Ford Group’s gala organized by Noelle? Does that mean I don’t even have a seat?”

Whatever Landon had been about to say stuck in his throat.

Noelle hadn’t expected Zinnia to talk back like that. She froze, her expression stiffening.

“You’re the lady of the Ford family. If anyone’s missing a seat, it certainly won’t be you,” Landon replied, his eyes warm as he looked at Zinnia.

But when his gaze shifted back to Noelle, any trace of a smile vanished. His eyes offered only a silent warning.

“Let’s head inside. Grandpa and the others are waiting for us.”

He took Zinnia’s hand and led her across the red carpet toward the grand hall, leaving Noelle standing awkwardly behind.

It wasn’t just Noelle who felt uncomfortable—even the reporters on the sidelines seemed to wince on her behalf. The tension was palpable. The whole thing was painfully awkward.

As Landon and Zinnia walked away, Noelle’s expression grew darker by the second. She could feel the eyes around her—people looking at her as if she were the punchline to some private joke.

She never imagined Landon would bring Zinnia, of all people, to such an important event. Zinnia had never shown up at any of the previous galas. Noelle had assumed tonight would be the same.

That’s why, even though Landon had been ignoring her calls and messages, she’d come tonight, hoping to find him and finally get some answers. She wanted to ask if he was giving her the cold shoulder because of some fight with Zinnia. As long as she could walk into the hall with Landon, who would know if they hadn’t planned it that way all along?

But she never expected Zinnia to actually show up.
