When she told him, “It’s time for a change,” she wasn’t angry or upset. She just sounded relieved, as if a weight had finally lifted.
In that moment, what she truly meant to change wasn’t just the flowers—it was him.
She didn’t want the flowers anymore. And she didn’t want him, either.
“To be perfectly honest, Landon, I think you and Noelle make a perfect pair. You both put on quite a show.”
Oh no.
Connor stared at his girlfriend—so bold, so unyielding—and dread washed over him.
Ruby finished her words, snatched up her purse, and turned to Connor. “Well, I’ve offended your precious Landon today. Isn’t he the one you always follow around like a lost puppy? Let’s just end this now. Go ahead, tell everyone you dumped me—consider it your tribute to Team Landon.”
With that, Ruby spun on her heel and strode out without a backward glance.
Sonya caught Ruby’s eye as she passed, flashing her a discreet thumbs-up.
Ruby lifted her chin in triumph and swept out of the private lounge.
Connor sat frozen in his chair, his face draining of color.
It wasn’t until Arrow gave him a hard shove that Connor snapped out of it, jumping to his feet and rushing after her.
“Baby, I don’t want to break up! I don’t want to pick Landon’s side! Please, don’t leave me!”
Back inside the lounge, the air grew even heavier.
Arrow looked from Landon to his own wife, then stood up slowly. “Uh, looks like Spike’s about to give birth. Sonya and I should check on him. Landon, we’ll get going too.”
He grabbed Sonya and hurried out.
Sonya shot him a withering look as they left—Spike was a male dog, after all. What a ridiculous excuse.
“You should head home too,” Landon said quietly to Chandler, the only one left.
Chandler’s gaze drifted to Landon’s trembling hand. He shook his head inwardly.
