If this had happened before, Landon’s response would have been exactly what she expected.
But today, even Zinnia herself thought Landon would turn her down.
And yet, Landon agreed.
She stared at her phone in surprise for half a second before grinning and nodding eagerly.
“Okay... okay, Landon, I’ll come find you right now.”
“Zinnia.”
Landon’s voice came through the phone, calling her name.
“Mr. Ford, since you’re in touch with Noelle now, you don’t need me to play messenger anymore. My class is about to start, so I’ll hang up.”
Zinnia didn’t give Landon a chance to respond—she simply ended the call.
Noelle, standing right in front of her, no longer looked panicked. Instead, her eyes sparkled with smug satisfaction as she met Zinnia’s gaze.
“Did you hear that? I told you—Landon could never be cruel to me.”
She dropped the innocent act completely, her look turning openly triumphant, almost taunting.
“Between you and me, Landon will always choose me. As for you, you pathetic mutt...”
She glanced down at Dapper, sitting clueless in his stroller, and let out a cold, mocking laugh.
“It doesn’t even matter that it’s still alive. Even if my mother really had tossed it down the sewer and killed it, that would just be its fate. Look, this time again, Landon chose me. Ha!”
Crack!
Noelle’s gloating was cut short by a sharp slap across her face.
Her laughter died in her throat. She clutched her cheek, staring at Zinnia in disbelief.
“Zinnia, did you just hit me?”
