Chapter 36 Calyx
‘I’m not jealous that Rose calls Mark daddy,‘ I growl at Zviad as I make my way to the pack house. I was even more pissed now. Rose and I had been going to the small diner, Soula’s, for ice cream. We had just gotten the ice cream when Sam came inside. He told me that four council members had arrived to talk with Markus and I. I tried not to growl as Rose looked a little heart broken at our ice cream date getting interrupted. Promising that I would take her to the park as soon as I was done with the meeting, I left her with
Sám.
‘Very jealous,‘ Zviad states plainly as we walk the two blocks to the pack house. I try to enjoy the late afternoon sun.
I use the time to cool down so I’m not yelling at the representatives. I get ready to enter the pack house when I catch the scents of those that are not part of Moonstone.
‘They sent them,‘ Zviad growls in irritation at the four scents we pick up.
They sent four alphas to check on us. Clark, Alpha of Red Dusk was 31 and dick to everyone he met and a little clueless. Devin, Alpha of Dawn Claw was 27 and selfish, putting himself first and above everyone. The worst choices to send to check into packs. Lucas, Alpha of Blue Timber was 45 and very calculating and was usually four steps ahead of everyone else. Last was Harold, Alpha of the Deep Fang and 65. He was known for being ruthless to his enemies but kind to his allies.
I was not looking forward to this meeting. When Markus and I had to take turns on the council, Devin and Clark got on our nerves. Every Alpha, soon to be Alpha, or retired Alpha had to rotate their time on the council. Rotating members of Alphas meant that no one could sit on the council for too long. No one could buy their way onto the council and stay in power for too long. The rotation lasted four months with twelve members. The next four months were spent with twelve different Alphas. Then all current alphas met yearly and talked with those that had been in the rotation for the year.
It had been a good idea, the problem, some of the alphas were bastards and fought with those that were trying to do their jobs.
I took another deep breath before I entered the pack house. I made my way to Mark and I’s office. Their scents were stronger as I got ready to open the door. I braced myself for the four.
“There he is,” Clark smirked as he drank beer from where he was lounging on the couch. I no idea where he got the beer. I know that none of our omegas would have been serving alcohol to a visiting alpha unless Mark or I asked for it.
“Make yourself right at home,” I growled as I moved to my desk.
“Don’t mind if I do,” Devin said as he watched out the window. He was probably watching my pack members go about their day. Devin had been fighting to expand his territory for years, since he had took over from his grandfather. He always got jealous of other packs‘ territories.
“You know why we are here,” Lucas states with a growl at the younger of the two alphas that have come.
“Yes we do,” Mark says as he walking into the office. He must have stopped by Uncle Michael’s. Mark is dressed in a suit now.
“Thank you Calyx, for finally joining us,” Clark smirks at me.
I know he was thinking how I was underdressed. I growl dangerously. I was still dressed in spare clothes from the hospital, having come from taking Rose for ice cream and being at the hospital. “I am Calyx you idiot,” I tell him sharply.
‘What type of Alpha cannot tell twins apart?‘ Zviad scoffs.
My comment makes Clark and Devin pause and do double checks. We have not played a prank on the council since we graduated high school.
“Why are you in scrubs?” Lucas asks, he has a calculating look on his face.

Yes, we found her,” Mark says as he breaks eye contact me.
“Well, don’t keep us in suspense,” Clark scoffs at us.
“We were right, and she was here in our pack,” I start.

“What?” Harold asks, concern lacing his tone.
“Her parents locked her up in their home, and they then told us she ran from the pack,” Mark says.
“That is concerning,” Lucas says from where he is sitting. He knows that there is more to the story.
“Concerning is putting it lightly,” Clark scoffs. “What did your father have to say about the treatment?”
“Our father was in on keeping our mate locked up and away from us,” I tell the four.
“It just shows that their line is unfit to be the leaders of this pack, Devin claims. I know he is trying to weasel his way into some of our territory.
“What was that?” Markus growled as he started to stalk his way towards Devin.
“Markus,” I snap at the same time Harold says, “Enough.”
“We are not here to fight amongst ourselves. As alphas and members of the council, we have more important matters,” Lucas states. “We are here to investigate why you removed your father as Alpha and he is now a rogue.”
