Chapter 37 Markus
Being mistaken as Calyx by Clark and Devin, hilarious. And that is where my joy ends for the whole conversation. This was not how the rest of the day was supposed to go. Why couldn’t we catch a break.
“Say that again,” I growl, Aziz growling as well.
“We are not here to take your pack,” Harold says as he shoots a glare at Devin.
“I’m just saying, maybe the pups can’t handle this amount of territory. Their father couldn’t,” he smirks.
“I’ll show you who is a pup,” I growl and start to move forward.
“Enough,” Lucas commands. “Devin, you will wait outside until we come for you.”
Devin growls a little before he leaves the room in a huff.
“Alpha Clark, you will act like an Alpha or you will leave,” Harold orders.
“I was never not behaving,” he smirks.
I start to growl when Cal glares at me. I take a deep breath to try and calm my nerves. I want out of this meeting as soon as possible. Goddess, why were there Alphas like Clark and Devin?
‘Can I rip the bastard apart yet?‘ Aziz demands. I know he is pacing in my head, itching to get out.
‘Not until he is off the council rotation and someone else takes his place,‘ I growl.
‘Are you okay?‘ I hear James ask.
‘Fine,‘ I growl back.
‘Jeez, don’t bite my head off. Ama said she could feel Cal and your agitation and wanted me to check,‘ James huffs at me.
‘Why didn’t she mind link me herself?‘ I ask, getting sidetracked.
‘We don’t know. She has been trying to. Doc asked if she could while she was locked up, and she said no. Doc thinks her parents or the Ex–Alpha did something and now she can’t. He’s running some tests now,‘ James tells me.
Great, not only did our dad have her imprisoned, but he also did something so she can’t mind link the pack. This just gets better and better the more we find out.
“Alpha Markus?” Lucas states sharply. “If you would like to tune into our conversation.”
“Sorry, our Beta was linking me. Evidently, our father was able to do something to our mate’s ability to mind link pack members,” I growl in frustration.
“That’s not possible,” Clark barks out a laugh. “They can only be taken away temporarily by silver or wolfsbane,”
I do not miss the look Lucas and Harold share, and neither does my twin.
“What do you know?” Calyx demands.
“Something that I read a long time ago,” Harold starts. I can see that whatever he is thinking about is very unpleasant.
Chapter 37 Markus
“Stop being dramatic old man, Clark dismisses.
“If it what I think it is, I am not being dramatic,” Alpha Harold growls, forcing Clark in hare his peek at him in submission
That gave me even more pause. Alpha Harold was using his alpha command on another alpha. He was serials and nerves that what he was thinking.
“There is a coven of witches from a few centuries ago that were able to do subdue
werever he tells
“Come on, those are just bedtime stories. Scary stories our parents tell us to keep in line,” he scuffs. “Witch Covens died out during the Salem Witch Trials. If witch covens are still around, why haven’t we heard about them?*
“You think they just disappeared?” Lucas scoffed. “Humans think we are myths.”
“Yea because we keep to ourselves,” Clark dismissed.
“You can not be this dense or dumb,” Calyx sighed in exasperation.
Clark growled in defense.
“We went into hiding, is it not only fair to assume that they would too? Humans fear what they do not know, Harold stated.
“So, a witch coven is out there causing trouble?” I ask, trying to keep the irritation out of my voice.
“Why would they show up now? Why help our father hide our mate?” Calyx asks. “It doesn’t add up or make sense.”
“Witches are about power and legacy. The longer the lineage, the stronger they are. Many strong witches were killed in the different witch hunts. Magic ran to rampant and scared humans. I ancient times, magic and myth coexisted together with humans. But as science came about, the supernatural world faded into the background. We became stories. Our shifting ability is easier to hide from humans. We were able to walk amongst them as if we were human. Witches have an air about them. You can feel the power. A human could feel the power of a witch when they walked into a room. That sort of thing scares humans. Fear can turn to hatred. When something is feared for a long time, they become resentful. Resentful to the world as a whole,” Alpha Harold continues to explain.
“So what does that have to do with us?” Clark demands.
“Witches hate us too,” Calyx sighs in exasperation.
‘How dense,‘ Aziz coffs.
I hum in agreement.
“If they are surfacing, then they have a goal and reason. The council will look into this. We will look into rumors of witches and a remedy for your mate,” Lucas assures us.
I have a feeling that we will not find closer very fast. I am about to say something when panic spikes through me. I search for the reason and find the mate bond and follow it to Ama. I try to figure out what is going on when Calyx growls.
Zviad forces the shift and my twin is running from our office.
‘Get your asses to the hospital!‘ James grunts through the mind link.
I go cold. What is happening? We had already been summoned by him once today.
“Alpha?” Harold asks.
Chapter 37 Markus
“I don’t know, something’s wrong with our mate,” I say before I am running out the door. I hear footsteps behind me. I don’t le see who is following, I don’t care. Ama is in trouble. I will be damned if I’m not there to help.
I don’t shift, no matter how much Aziz pushes it. Both Zviad and Aziz will not fit into the hospital room. I run as fast as I can. Aztr lends me his speed as we race towards the hospital.
