Ventrix Games, a mobile game studio, burst into the scene six years ago with the country's most popular racing game. It went public two years later.
Though based in Hardington, its owner remained a mystery, rarely making an appearance unless absolutely necessary.
Gale, who oversaw day-to-day operations, was now briefing the man by the CEO's office window.
The man, however, looked distracted. He clearly wasn't listening to Gale.
So, Gale put the file aside and changed subjects. "Juned just sent word from Brindley. Maxine was dismissed by Brindley's task force, and she spent two days in detention.
"Mrs. Haberkorn is furious. She said you've gone too far this time and completely ignored the family's reputation…"
The man looked unfazed, even lighting a cigarette as Gale spoke.
Seeing this, Gale didn't press on and asked, "You're not going to deal with the Haberkorns?"
Hunter hadn't returned home since leaving. At first, his family watched from the sidelines, expecting him to fail. But as his business thrived, they tried to rein him in by arranging a marriage.
Everyone could see that Maxine's incident was just a test.
"Deal with what?" Hunter blew a smoke ring and chuckled. "It has nothing to do with me anyway."
Without skipping a beat, he stubbed out the cigarette. He rarely smoked, except when he was truly frustrated. He needed a drag to calm his nerves.
Gale knew there was also another reason—Noelle hated it.
So, he moved on to reporting minor matters from the training camp. If Noelle weren't involved, Hunter probably wouldn't have listened at all.
A knock came at the door.
"Come in," Gale said.
The next instant, Juned entered, holding Bonnie's hand in his. The girl was dressed in a blue tracksuit.
Bonnie ran straight to Hunter, clinging to his leg. "Daddy, when are you taking me to see Mommy?"
Ever since meeting Noelle, Bonnie had decided that she was her mother. If Hunter liked Noelle, then that would make Noelle her mother.
Hunter scooped her into his arms, sensing that she had gained some weight. It was inevitable—she loved food. She might look slim and adorable on the outside, but her arms were cushioned with baby fat.
