Too Good for You: The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 123

After Derrick left, Noelle stood there for a long while.

Noticing her disappearance, Alexis came out looking for her and saw her sitting quietly by the flowerbed. She walked over. "Noelle?"

Noelle glanced at her, pulling her emotions back under control.

Alexis grinned and handed her a soda. "Ms. Quinn, are you sitting out here thinking about Coach Haberkorn?"

Noelle knew she was joking and gave a short laugh. "You caught me."

Alexis lifted her chin proudly. "Of course. I might not know other people, but I know you. You're all tough talk and soft heart. You're crazy about Coach Haberkorn, but you keep pretending you couldn't care less."

She leaned close to Noelle's ear. "You'd better keep an eye on him. I've heard a bunch of women at the intensive training camp like him and are planning to make a move while you two still aren't official."

Noelle shrugged. "If a man can be stolen that easily, he's not worth much."

She took a sip of soda and added, "Since we've got the race tomorrow, hit the gym tonight and put in an extra hour of conditioning."

Alexis let out a wail on the spot.

What kind of devil was she?

The race was tomorrow. Couldn't she get one night off?

The next day was race day.

Noelle was up first. Her performance was as steady as always. The international slot was already hers by right, so even if she didn't race again or slipped later, it wouldn't matter. Her overall score was so strong that she didn't have a single rival in the whole of Stonegate.

But this was Alexis' first international qualifier, so for the second heat, Noelle chose to race with her.

Derrick was up right after Noelle. Alexis thought of cheering for him, but watching him fall behind again and again, even scraping the edge of the track, she was in disbelief. Anyone who knew Derrick could tell this wasn't his true ability. On top of that, he kept clearing obstacles for drivers from other countries.

In the end, it was the racer from Norland who took first in that heat.

Once Derrick's score was factored into the team standings, their national ranking took a hit. And while this race was technically just a warm-up for the internationals, for the racers who wouldn't make it to the main event, it was still the best chance to showcase their skills.
