"Why don't you stay in my room tonight?" Clifford suggested blandly, as if these words were more than enough to show his indulgence of Lola.
Lola lit up at once. It seemed her strategy to get close to Clifford was working.
…
The next day, Noelle headed for the tracks with the participating teams.
The team members of Thunderbolt Racing were buzzing with anticipation when they saw Noelle, ready to rise to her challenge. Only Shannon looked a little guilty as she turned away from Noelle and kept their eye contact to a bare minimum.
Noelle simply glanced at Shannon, like she was nothing more than a pest.
When the teams pulled up at the tracks, they fell in line and waited for their cues.
Meanwhile, an impressive audience had gathered in the stands. Divine Group had invited several honored guests to watch the league championship and the opening performance.
As the cameras panned toward the racers' stand and revealed the faces of many young racers, the commentators took their places.
Clifford chose the seat closest to the Divine Group's representatives, and Lola and Zayne took the seats beside him. He was admittedly a little weary this morning after his vigorous session with Lola in the sheets last night, which kept them up late.
Thankfully, Lola was considerate enough to not only look after Zayne but also pick out an outfit for Clifford. She also ordered breakfast for them.
Just then, a beautiful but determined face appeared on the large screen.
The woman on the screen wore only light makeup, but she looked confident and sharp. Her long, wavy hair seemed to speak of her unbridled spirit and made her look like a temptress.
She was more beautiful than any movie star, and it was hard to ignore how attractive she was as she stood tall and straight in her racer uniform.
Because of her outstanding appearance, the camera stayed on her for at least ten seconds.
When Alexis noticed the big screen, she nudged Noelle, who then beamed at the camera. She looked even more beautiful then, like a flower in full bloom.
The audience gasped at her breathtaking visage, and even Divine Group's representative, Eric Zeller, exclaimed, "Goodness, this racer is gorgeous! Have you ever seen such a beauty?"
Lola pouted and said a little sadly, "I happen to know this racer. She was a housewife for years, and she doesn't even know how to drive on most days.
"We even saw her hanging around and shopping with an old man yesterday, and he even helped her with her bags. They seemed rather close."
