Nicola, who was standing nearby, gripped the hem of her shirt nervously, feeling a little guilty.
Since Noelle wanted to eat, Derrick had enough common sense to leave her be. Not too long after she found an empty space and sat down, Alexis, whose hair was tied up in a high ponytail as usual, slipped into the seat opposite her, handing a bottle of milk to her.
She shot a bewildered look in Alexis' direction. She couldn't help but think that Alexis was becoming more and more self-aware of her role as Noelle's assistant. She quietly twisted the bottle of milk open and took a sip.
It was then that Alexis spoke up in a low voice. "Captain, can I discuss something with you?"
Noelle arched an eyebrow, signaling for her to continue. Alexis mustered all the courage she had and shot Noelle a serious look. "I want you to guide me and help me get stronger. Please give me private lessons!"
Noelle nearly spat out the milk. She coughed violently a few times, utterly caught off guard by Alexis' request. "Why do you suddenly want to have private lessons with me?"
She still remembered how Alexis had looked down on her when she first joined the intensive training camp.
Alexis looked quite embarrassed. After watching videos of the races online and reminiscing about how Noelle had handled her car on the racetrack, she slowly realized that Noelle was truly skilled in her craft. She was the person who was most similar to Sheila that Alexis had ever met.
"I want to become as amazing as you," she explained. "I want to meet Sheila."
She looked completely serious as she said resolutely, "My dream has always been to be the best female racer. I want to get Sheila's approval when I stand before her."
Alexis' expression morphed into one of mortification before she continued, "But I thought too highly of myself. I didn't think that there would be people better than me.
"Compared to the truly amazing racers, I'm nothing but trash. You only joined the training camp not too long ago, and you've already achieved such incredible results."
Before the league championship, Alexis always thought of herself as a naturally talented racer. She only realized how wrong she had been when Noelle showed up.
Meanwhile, Noelle had no idea that she had dealt such a heavy blow to Alexis' self-esteem, and she hadn't intended to do such a thing. She comforted Alexis, saying, "I think you're amazing. Besides, Sheila has already retired. No matter how amazing you become, you'll never get to meet her."
"Sheila hasn't retired!" Alexis countered in a serious tone. "An international racer that I know shared in the fan group that Sheila hasn't retired. She's just recuperating at the moment. Once she's all better, she'll return to the racetrack once more."
A resolute expression appeared on Alexis' face. "There might even come a day when I get to stand next to Sheila. Maybe I'll even get to accept a trophy directly from her hands."
Noelle's voice was tinged with helplessness as she said, "Good luck to you then."
