A flicker of uneasiness flashed across Tina's face. She hadn't expected Noelle to be such a tough cookie. Still, she steeled herself and berated Lacey and Rosette.
"What's going on with the two of you? I stepped out to use the restroom and couldn't handle Ms. Quinn's makeup myself. Couldn't you at least help her out with it?"
A look of frustration appeared on Tina's face. "If word got out, people might think that I deliberately refused to do Ms. Quinn's makeup! You're ruining my livelihood!"
Lacey and Rosette shrank back, looking timid and guilty. In truth, Tina had been the one who told them not to help out with Noelle's makeup. So the two wondered why Tina was putting the blame on them for being tactless now, and they felt incredibly wronged.
Just then, the director's assistant arrived to check on them. "Mr. Maxwell is ready. Can we begin filming?"
Tina plastered on a fawning smile. "Everyone's ready except Ms. Quinn. We thought there would be enough time, but Ms. Quinn disappeared earlier and only showed up at the last minute. Unfortunately, I had a stomachache just then, so I couldn't finish her look in time..."
Noelle folded her arms impassively and watched as Tina put on her little act. She hadn't expected Tina to be such a smooth liar. Clearly, Tina had been the one who dragged things out on purpose and failed to do Noelle's makeup for her, yet somehow Noelle was the one being painted as unprepared.
Noelle's gaze dropped to Tina's badge. "You're an instructor at Shimmer Academy of Makeup? A B-grade makeup artist, are we?"
For someone of Tina's age, achieving a B-grade certification did show a certain level of caliber.
Looking pleased with herself, Tina tucked her hair behind her ear and answered, "That's right. It'll take me at least two hours to get your look done, Ms. Quinn. As an apology, I promise I'll give you the best styling possible. Why don't we have Mr. Maxwell shoot the others first? Once they're done, we can come back to you."
"So that's what you were playing at."
Noelle let out a contemptuous laugh. "If we wait until everyone else is finished, the set and tracks will have to be reset when it's finally my turn. That would mean that the whole crew would have to work overtime, just because of me.
"And then, you'll have the perfect excuse to dump all the blame on me. After all, it'll look like I was the difficult one who insisted on some complicated look that delayed the entire shoot."
Her smile turned mocking. "If that's your plan, I'm afraid I'll have to let you down."
At that moment, Hazel, already styled and ready, stepped in to smooth things over. "Ms. Quinn, I don't think Tina meant it like that. She probably just didn't want to hold things up. Why don't you just go along with her suggestion?"
