"I…"
Lola glanced at Clifford, who was standing at a distance and refusing to intervene. Uneasiness pricked at her, but she braved it and said, "Go ahead, then!"
She was just about to enter the serial number on the website Noelle opened when Clifford snatched her phone away.
His expression was cold. "What are you doing, Noelle? Enough is enough!"
He saw what happened. The jewelry Noelle wore was authentic, and she had had them a few years ago.
A wave of resentment washed through Clifford. Things had been tough when he and Noelle first started their business, yet she had such expensive jewelry and never thought of using it to help him.
She was really selfish.
Widening her eyes, Lola gaped at Clifford.
He had claimed that he'd gone through great lengths to buy the ring for her. And when he first gave it to her, he'd registered it on the website.
Yet now, he refused to let her check its authenticity.
That meant he was clearly diffident about it.
When it came to men, Lola knew them much better than Noelle. She stared at her ring, feeling utterly humiliated as she realized the ring was probably a fake.
Noelle, however, didn't notice the shift in Lola's mood.
"Get your facts straight, Clifford," she said, meeting his gaze calmly. "Your dear secretary was the one who kept pestering me about the authenticity of my jewelry. How is it my problem now?"
The onlookers were equally pissed. "Yeah, Mr. Fuller. You can't just spin a story out of nowhere. How could you just falsely accuse her?"
Embarrassed, Clifford swerved toward Lola and barked, "You should be with Zayne right now. What are you still here for?"
Noelle frowned at the mention of their child.
"Where's Zayne? I want to see him," she said. "And also, Ms. Perez doubted and falsely accused me earlier. Shouldn't she apologize to me?"
With so many people watching, Clifford didn't dare press Noelle any further. After all, he had to maintain his pride.
He glared at Lola, who reluctantly muttered, "I didn't check the facts and jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry, Ms Quinn."
After a brief pause, she added, "But since that jewelry is from years ago, it should still count as marital property. Ms. Quinn, don't you owe Mr. Fuller an explanation?"
Noelle's expression remained cold.
"That piece of jewelry was mine before the marriage, so it isn't marital property," she replied. "And when Clifford and I divorced, I didn't take a single penny from him. I left with nothing. He was the one who cheated on me. Shouldn't he be the one to give me an explanation?"
