So she said, Then we’ll stay at the Beltran Hotel, but we can’t let Crestmark Group cover the cost. We’ll pay for it ourselves.

Vivian smiled, Mr. Harmon specifically told me to handle this. Ms. Sutton, please let me do my job.

Hearing this, Aveline said no more.

Upon arriving at the Beltran Hotel, Vivian checked them into three rooms. Aveline, Jasmine, and Julian first left their luggage in their respective rooms, then went downstairs to the restaurant.

The moment the elevator doors glided open, they were caught off guard to see Josephine, Vincent, and Eileen standing inside.

Vincent and Eileen looked clearly stunned.

Josephine had been smiling as she talked to Eileen, but the moment she saw Aveline, her eyes turned cold. Her lips twitched, and she stepped out of the elevator, with Vincent and Eileen following.

Eileen questioned, Aveline, why are you here?

Aveline didn’t bother answering. She stepped into the elevator directly.

Why the fuck are you ignoring us?Vincent snapped.

Julian only knew Josephine and had no idea who the other two were to Aveline. Hearing Vincent’s insult, he flew into a rage.

Who do you think you are, talking like that?

Vincent was a hottempered man. Afraid he might start a fight with Julian, Aveline quickly said, Julian, just ignore them. Get in.

Julian was tall, and Vincent stood a head shorter. Vincent wanted to act out, but Julian’s fierce downward glare made him lose his nerve instantly.

Jasmine pulled Julian into the elevator.

After the doors closed, Jasmine asked at once, Who are those two?

Aveline said calmly, My cousins.

Jasmine looked at her. Your cousins? Are they close with Josephine?

Aveline smiled faintly and nodded.

After all, their father, Devin Sutton, depended on Jacob to get by. Vincent and Eileen naturally curried favor with Courtney and Josephine.

Julian didn’t know as much about Aveline’s private life as Jasmine did, but he knew Josephine was Jacob’s illegitimate daughter. Seeing Aveline nod, he frowned.

The three of them reached the hotel lobby and walked toward the restaurant, only to see Xavier and Gerald approaching from the opposite direction.

Aveline wasn’t surprised to see Xavier. She’d just run into Josephine, after all.

Jasmine couldn’t help muttering, What a coincidence.

Julian glanced at Aveline.

Aveline said nothing, her expression calm as she kept walking forward.

Xavier was looking down, on a call, and didn’t notice her. Gerald did, but he didn’t tell Xavier.

As they drew near, Gerald let out a chuckle. Aveline, you’re pretty wellinformed, aren’t you? Did know Josie’s here celebrating, or did you have someone follow Xavier?

you

At that, Xavier looked up. When he saw Aveline, he paused, with a faint look of surprise.

Aveline didn’t meet his eyes. Instead, she shot Gerald a cold glance.

Gerald froze, his smile faltering.

In his memory, Aveline had chased Xavier passionately to become his wife, and he’d always looked down on her.

As Xavier’s childhood friend, bound by a brotherly bond, Aveline had always curried favor with him, never once giving him such a frosty look.

This sudden coldness caught him off guard.

He scoffed, turning to Xavier and mocking, Xavier, I think being Mrs. Beltran really makes Aveline different.

Xavier stared at Aveline, his gaze deep, but he said nothing.

Aveline still didn’t look at him. Instead, she spoke coldly to Gerald, What about me is different?

Gerald’s lips twisted into a sneer. Dare you speak to Xavier in that tone?

Aveline’s expression stayed cold, Whether I dare or not, it’s none of your business. Who do you think you are?

YouGerald sputtered.

Aveline ignored him and kept walking forward.

As she was about to pass Xavier, she caught a glimpse of him staring at her from the corner of her

eye.

But she didn’t even spare him a glance.

Suddenly, Xavier grabbed her arm.

Aveline was forced to stop. She frowned, her gaze fixing on his hand clamped around her arm. Let go.

Xavier didn’t release her. He asked, You contacted my mother? How long are you planning to hold onto your anger?

Xavier was tall and straight. Aveline had to tilt her head up to look at him, but her face remained blank.
