Chapter 134
Aveline glanced at her rearview mirror and saw the black Bentley following her. She coldly looked away, focusing on the road ahead.
Collin and Paulina in the back seat didn’t know, but Miranda in the passenger seat happened to glance at the rearview mirror and also spotted the black Bentley.
Recognizing the license plate, she immediately turned to Aveline and said, “That’s Mr. Beltran’s car behind us.”
Aveline gave a faint “mm.”
Hearing this, Collin and Paulina turned to look out the rear window, but their old eyes were blurry. They could only make out a black car, not the license plate.
Paulina said, “Is that Xavier in that car?
What a coincidence, he’s right behind us.”
Aveline knew it wasn’t a coincidence. Xavier had come specifically to pick her and her maternal grandparents up. Ha, she had clearly told him he didn’t need to pick them up, but he came anyway. Something was wrong with him. He was pretending not to notice her coldness, and she wasn’t about to feel sorry for him.
Coming to pick her and her maternal grandparents up was just an act for Rupert to see, to make Rupert think he re- spected her and her maternal grandparents.
When they arrived at the Southern River–style Cuisine restaurant’s parking lot, Aveline parked the car, got out, and helped Miranda assist Collin and Paulina out of the car.
Xavier walked over. “Collin, Paulina.”
Collin gave him a cool nod, feeling some resentment towards him for investing in a movie for Jacob’s illegitimate daughter.
Paulina had her issues with Xavier, of course, but she was a kind and dignified woman. Plus, he was her granddaugh- ter’s husband, so she couldn’t give him the cold shoulder. She said,
“What a coincidence, you were right behind our car.”
Hearing that, Xavier glanced at Aveline with a smirk, as if teasing her for not telling her grandparents that he had al- ready said he would pick them up.
Aveline looked indifferent and ignored him, telling Collin and Paulina to head into the restaurant.
Rupert and Lauren were already in the private dining room. When Collin and Paulina came in, Rupert immediately

stood up to greet them.
Lauren didn’t want to stand, but when she saw Rupert get up, she had to as well.
The three of them exchanged greetings and pleasantries.
Collin and Paulina knew Rupert genuinely cared for Aveline, so they were warm and friendly towards him.
Rupert was also very polite and respectful to Collin and Paulina.
Rupert noticed Lauren wasn’t saying anything and shot her a look.
Startled, Lauren quickly offered her greetings.
Collin was dismissive and ignored her, but the proper Paulina replied with a brief “hello.”
Seeing this, Rupert guessed that while he was abroad, Lauren must have offended Aveline’s maternal grandparents again.
Rupert knew this wasn’t the time to question or blame Lauren, so he asked Xavier,
“You brought Collin and Paulina over.”
Xavier said calmly, “No, Aveline drove them.”
Rupert frowned. Paulina quickly chimed in, “Oh, so Xavier was coming to pick us up! No wonder he was driving be- hind us.
We had already left by then.”
Lauren raised an eyebrow. “If Xavier was going to pick you up, he would have told Aveline beforehand.”
As she spoke, she looked towards Aveline.
Aveline remained indifferent, pretending not to hear or see anything.
Xavier said flatly, “All that matters is that they’re here.
Collin, Paulina, please sit.”
