Chapter 149
Aveline’s lips curved into a sneer. “Maybe it’s because I overheard her complaining to your mom about me bringing a box of grapes, saying I was afraid Arthur’s diabetes wasn’t serious enough.”
Xavier was stunned for a moment, then laughed. “I told you, if I bought the wrong thing, you’d be embarrassed right along with me.”
Aveline scoffed. “Was I embarrassed along with you?
Or was I the only one who got blamed?”
Xavier smiled. “Alright, I’ll clear it up with Aunt.”
With that, he took out his phone and texted his Aunt.
Aveline couldn’t be bothered with him and turned to look out the window.
Besides Rupert and Brielle, none of the Beltrans had a conscience.
She had risked her own life to save Xavier, and they actually suspected her of being a fraud.
Did Xavier suspect her too?
Aveline didn’t want to ask. She was divorcing him anyway, so there was no point.
In the room at the convalescent home, Aunt received a text from Xavier.
[I bought that box of grapes. I didn’t know Arthur couldn’t eat them. I’ll pick out some suitable traditional health ton- ics and send them over later.]
Aunt chuckled and replied: [Oh, we have plenty of traditional health tonics, no need to buy more. Your uncle can’t eat a lot of grapes, but a small amount is fine. Besides, your cousin and I can eat them.]
Then, she turned and whispered to Lauren, “See? Aveline tattled. Xavier texted to explain.”
She showed the text to Lauren.
Lauren frowned. “She’s so calculating.”
Aunt sighed, “Yes, Xavier is too straightforward. He’s no match for her.”
Lauren’s frown deepened.
Aunt saw this and her lips curved into a subtle smile.
The black Bentley stopped in front of the Beltran Hotel. Aveline opened the door to get out, just as she heard Xavier

Chapter 149
“Remember, we have dinner together tonight.”
Aveline’s brow furrowed slightly.
Since she didn’t say anything, Xavier added, “You promised the Patriarch.”
Aveline got out of the car. “Text me the time and place. I’ll be there.”
With that, she closed the car door.
Xavier’s dark eyes were deep as he watched Aveline quickly walk into the hotel through the car window.
Once she was out of sight, he said to the driver, “Back to the convalescent home.”
Aveline entered the hotel. Jasmine and Julian were already waiting for her in the lobby. She apologized to them.

Jasmine chided, “You’re about to divorce Xavier, and you’re still visiting his uncle. Xavier really knows how to tor- ment you to the very end.”
Julian didn’t say anything, but he gave Aveline a deep look.
Aveline said helplessly, “I’m just putting up with it so he’ll get the agreement sorted out quickly.
Let’s go.”
The three of them walked through the hotel lobby to the parking lot behind it to get their car and drove to the Country Club construction site.
At 5:30, Aveline was still at the construction site when she got a text from Xavier:
7 PM tonight, the Crescent Moon private dining room at the Chinese restaurant in the Beltran Hotel.
Aveline didn’t reply to him, but at six, she left the construction site with Jasmine and Julian, returned to the hotel, went to her room to wash her face and change, and then went downstairs to the Chinese restaurant.
When she got to the floor of the Chinese restaurant, Aveline stepped out of the elevator and saw a few familiar figures standing not far away.
It was Josephine, Eileen, and Leona; they had their backs to Aveline, so they didn’t see her.
