Then she realized that she hadn’t felt nauseous at all since waking up yesterday.
She told the doctor.
The doctor pondered for a moment. “We already ran a pregnancy test yesterday, and you’re not pregnant. You might want to consider getting an endoscopy to check.”
Fiona frowned. “Endoscopies are really uncomfortable.”
Although Aveline had never had one, she knew it was uncomfortable because she had gone with her mother when she
had one.
“Doctor, besides a stomach problem, what else could cause nausea?”
The doctor replied, “Many things. Acid reflux, or maybe indigestion. If it were a viral infection, you don’t have diar- rhea or vomiting. Since you haven’t felt nauseous at all from yesterday until now, there’s another possibility.”
“Because your period was late, you suspected you were pregnant, and your body showed signs of a phantom pregnan-
Yesterday, your mother–in–law told you that you weren’t pregnant, and your phantom pregnancy symptoms disap- peared.”
Aveline hadn’t thought of that as a reason.
Could she subconsciously want to be pregnant?
“Are you considering getting an endoscopy?”
Aveline shook her head. “No, that’s okay. I’ll just wait and see. If the nausea comes back, I’ll get it done then.”
After the doctor left, Fiona asked Aveline, “Do you want to be pregnant? Why would you have a phantom pregnancy reaction?”
Aveline frowned slightly. “How could I possibly want to be pregnant? My period was probably just late and I was overly worried.”
Before the words were out of her mouth, she heard familiar footsteps.
Xavier walked in. He had probably overheard her conversation with Fiona.
But Aveline didn’t care. Without looking back at him, she picked up her water glass and took a sip.
Xavier asked, “Has your period still not come?”

As he spoke, he walked to the side of the bed and reached for the glass Aveline had just set down.
Aveline snatched it away. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Xavier chuckled. “I haven’t had a drop of water all morning. I’m parched and just want a sip.
What’s with that reaction?”
“This is my glass. Use your own.”
Aveline shot him a cold glare.
What was wrong with him? Was he getting addicted to using her glass?

Xavier chuckled again. “It’s not like I haven’t used your glass before. I also used your toothbrush last night and this morning.”
Aveline snapped, “Xavier, that’s enough.”
Xavier fell silent, turned to get another glass, poured some water, and sat on the sofa to drink.
Fiona couldn’t stand the sight of him. “Why are you back? Shouldn’t you be figuring out a way to get Josephine’s pa- ternal cousin acquitted?”
Xavier took a sip of water and said calmly, “Josephine’s paternal cousin is also Aveline’s paternal cousin.
And you’re so sure she’s guilty?”
Then he didn’t wait for Fiona to speak and looked at Aveline. “You missed your period. Tell the doctor you haven’t had it, so they can check and see how to get it regulated.”
Aveline’s expression was cold. She didn’t want to deal with him, so she said nothing.
Fiona scoffed, “Xavier, is it because the Patriarch won’t let you get a divorce? Are you that desperate that you’ve re- sorted to sucking up to Aveline?
Trying to care about Aveline now, don’t you think that’s a bit hypocritical?”
Xavier gave a faint smile. “Now?
Wasn’t I concerned about her before?”
“Damn it, I’ve never seen someone so shameless. You and Josephine really are a match made in heaven.”
