Chapter 205
She wondered who Josephine had brought with her. Maybe Xavier, Jacob, and Courtney were all here.
Aveline got out of bed, walked to the door, and looked through the peephole.
Outside were Josephine, Jacob, the hotel manager, and two uniformed police officers.
Josephine had called the police.
Aveline smiled.
Fine, she’d play along with them.
She opened the door and asked with a cold expression, “Manager, what’s going on?”
Jacob, furious, pointed at her and started yelling, “You’re so vicious! First you harm your stepmother, and now your sister. Apologize immediately, and maybe your sister will forgive you.”
Aveline ignored him and just looked at the manager.
The manager was on his phone and said, “Yes, Mr. Beltran.”
Then he hung up the phone and answered Aveline, “Ms. Sutton, this lady here has called the police, saying you slapped her and also pushed her down.”
The two officers were a man and a woman. The female officer was the same one from before, so she recognized Ave- line. She said:
“You again?
Last time, you were the one reporting another Ms. Sutton for attempted murder. This time, this Ms. Sutton is accusing you of assault.”
Aveline answered her, “Officer, have you seen the security footage?”
The officer said, “Not yet. Let’s take your statement first.”
Just then, Xavier walked over in his bathrobe, and the door across the hall opened and Helena came out, and he said
to her:
“Lily is sleeping upstairs by herself. Go up and stay with her.”
Helena agreed immediately, glanced over at Aveline, and hurried away.
Then Xavier walked toward them.
Aveline said to the officer, “This woman followed me from upstairs to my room and forced her way in as I was open-

ing the door. I think she was trying to hurt me, and now she’s the one calling the cops. I don’t know if this is some kind of trap, so I’m not giving a statement until my lawyer is here.”
“Or, you can just open a case right now. I’m ready to take her to court.”
Before the officer could say a word, Josephine whined to Xavier, “Xav, my sister hit me, pushed me, won’t apologize, and wants to sue me.”
Xavier stared at Aveline with his deep, dark eyes and said nothing.
Seeing Xavier like this, Jacob couldn’t guess what he was thinking, so he turned and snapped at Aveline,
“So you’re admitting you hit Josie?”
Aveline looked at the female officer, “Officer, did what I just said sound like an admission?”
The female officer’s face turned serious. “So you’re refusing to give a statement now?”
Aveline replied, “I need my lawyer present. I didn’t hit her, and I didn’t push her.”
“If she really insists on pressing charges, I’ll sue her for slander.”
Josephine faced Xavier and sobbed without speaking, because Jacob was speaking for her:
“You pushed Josie out the door, causing her to fall in the hallway. It’s all on the security footage, and you’re still try- ing to deny it.”
Aveline kept looking at the officer. “Officer, if there’s nothing else, I’d like to go back to sleep. You can go get the se- curity footage. The bottom line is, I’m being falsely accused.”
“I don’t understand why she followed me into my room, then went back out and fell. Maybe she’ll explain it in court.” As Jacob pointed at Aveline, about to yell again, the female officer turned and said, “There’s no point arguing here.
Josephine, do you still want to press charges?”
Josephine looked at Xavier, “Darling, what do you think?”
Xavier said calmly, “You’re the one involved. It’s your decision.”
