Chapter 230
The villa community was built by the last year. It’s surrounded by a lake and less than an hour’s drive from Mount Ardwood, which is one of the reasons Alfred likes it.
The villa Xavier traded for the painting was the only one designed by Bernard Clarke, truly one–of–a–kind.
As Sebastian’s car entered the community, he saw the familiar black Bentley ahead.
So Xavier came too.
When they arrived at the Jenkins Estate, Xavier and Josephine got out of the black Bentley.
Aveline glanced at them coldly through the windshield, then looked away.
Fiona cursed, “Damn it. He brought Josephine and still had the nerve to ask if you wanted to see Alfred?”
“Was he planning on walking into Mr. Jenkins’s new house with the other woman on one arm and you on the other?”
Aveline remained silent, her expression indifferent.
After getting out of the car, the two groups met at the foot of the steps to the Jenkins Estate. Xavier’s dark lin-
eyes gered on Aveline for a moment before he greeted Sebastian.
Josephine smiled brightly. “Mr. Harmon, Fiona, good evening.
Sister, my brother–in–law asked if you wanted to come see Mr. Jenkins. You didn’t reply, so he thought you didn’t want to come.”
Josephine was wearing a rather glamorous, current–season haute couture cocktail dress. She also wore a diamond necklace; you could just imagine she’d be the most eye–catching socialite at Mr. Jenkins’s little party.
Aveline understood the mentality of people like Josephine and Courtney.
They seized every opportunity to attract men’s attention.
Better to be tacky than plain.
As Josephine spoke, she raised a hand to smooth her hair, the diamond ring on her ring finger glaringly bright.
It was the same one she had pulled out of Xavier’s pocket right in front of Aveline.
Aveline ignored Josephine and walked up the steps with her arm linked through Fiona’s.
Fiona leaned close to Aveline and said, “My god, is she here to put on a show?”
Although she lowered her voice, it was just loud enough for Josephine to hear, since they were only a few steps apart.

Josephine’s face darkened. She wanted to shoot Aveline and Fiona a vicious glare, but held back, worried others might see.
She reached out and took Xavier’s arm.
Xavier turned to look at her, a question in his eyes.
Josephine gave an awkward smile. “Sorry, brother–in–law, I think I’m a little hungry. My legs feel a bit weak, let me hold onto you on the way up.”
Xavier looked away, staring straight ahead. He didn’t say anything, letting Josephine keep her arm linked with his.
Josephine shot a triumphant look at Aveline.
Although Aveline heard them talking, she didn’t spare them a single glance.
Inside the house, Alfred came to greet them. “Xavier, Sebastian, Fiona, welcome, welcome.”
Alfred’s hair was almost completely white. He was wearing traditional formal attire and had a tall, slender, and re- fined air about him.
Sebastian and Xavier shook hands with Alfred one by one, and after Fiona greeted him with a smile, she said:
“Mr. Jenkins, I’d like to introduce a friend of mine, Aveline.”
Sebastian added, “Aveline is Bethany’s daughter, the landscape architect for our Crestmark’s Mount Ardwood resort project.”
Alfred was taken aback. “Bethany’s daughter?”
Aveline smiled. “Hello, Mr. Jenkins. My mother is very fond of you. I grew up looking at your paintings and copied them quite a bit.”
Alfred shook Aveline’s hand, studying her closely and murmuring, “Yes, you do look a lot like Bethany.”
