Aveline swung the broom to keep him from getting close.
Today she really saw it for herself: her uncle was all bark and no bite, and stupid too. He was afraid of a little pain and had no idea how to skillfully snatch the broom from her.
When the broom hit him, he’d quickly retreat. Once he was far enough away, he’d charge again, and with one swing from her, he’d back away in fear again.
The three security guards and Julian stared, dumbfounded, at Devin’s cowardly and comical display.
Eileen, afraid of getting hit in the face with the broom again, stood at a distance shouting curses, not daring to come over and help Devin.
Jasmine came out of the house. “I’ve already called the police. If you don’t leave now, you can wait to go keep Vin- cent company.”
The construction site was covered in rocks. An idea struck Devin, and he bent down to pick up a few small stones, throwing them one by one toward Aveline,
“You damn brat, you think I can’t deal with you? I’ll stone you to death, you heartless, ungrateful brat.”
“Aveline, watch out.”
Jasmine yelled.
Julian reached out to pull Aveline out of the way.
Two of the guards rushed to grab Devin and stop him.
Aveline swung the broom, knocking the thrown stones away. “Devin, you think a few little stones can kill me? In your dreams.”
With that, Aveline advanced on Devin with a cold expression, brandishing the broom.
Seeing this, Eileen also quickly picked up stones to throw at Aveline.
But after throwing just one, a guard who had been watching her grabbed her by the shoulder, holding her still.
As for Devin, he had thrown all his stones. Two guards were restraining him so he couldn’t pick up any more, and he raged helplessly,
“Aveline, stay back! I’m your uncle. You wouldn’t dare hit me.”

Just then, Aveline saw a police car pull into the construction site out of the corner of her eye. So she didn’t go for a hard blow, just poked Devin’s leg with the broom,
“Uncle, was that fun?”
Devin cried out.
“Uncle, at your age, you shouldn’t be afraid of getting your face ruined, right?”
Aveline said, raising the broom and pointing it at Devin’s face.
Devin squeezed his eyes shut in fear, afraid Aveline would poke them out. “You damn brat, you wouldn’t dare.”
The guard reminded him, “Construction…”
Aveline understood and lowered the broom, because two police officers were getting out of their car and walking
over.
The phone on the desk vibrated. Xavier glanced at it; it was Gerald calling.
He indifferently rejected the call and continued with the meeting.
A moment later, the phone vibrated again. It was Josephine calling.
He frowned slightly and pushed the phone toward Claude.
Claude glanced at it, nodded in understanding, then took his own phone and quickly left the meeting room to call Josephine.
“Ms. Sutton, Mr. Beltran is in a meeting.”
“When will it be over? It’s almost noon.”
“Almost done.
Is it urgent?”
“I’ll talk to him after his meeting is over, then.”
After the meeting, Claude said to Xavier, “Mr. Beltran, do you want to call Ms. Sutton back?”
Xavier walked out of the meeting room and said flatly, “What was so urgent?”
“She didn’t say.”
“If it’s urgent, she’ll contact me again.”
Claude didn’t dare say anything more.
He had already reminded Mr. Beltran, which counted as helping Josephine.
If he was too obvious about helping, Mr. Beltran would become suspicious.
