Xavier was silent.
After a moment, he spoke, his voice low and heavy. “I’m getting hard. If you don’t want me to mess with you, then just go to sleep.”
Aveline fell silent.
Xavier was wearing a bathrobe. He didn’t have a change of underwear here, so he must not be wearing any…
She bit her lip, not daring to think about it any further. She decided to ignore him and just sleep.
She was afraid that if she said another word or moved, he would actually do something.
In the end, Aveline was so exhausted that she fell asleep without realizing it.
Xavier opened his eyes. In the dim light, his dark eyes looked even deeper, as still as a deep well, as he gazed at Ave- line’s peaceful, sleeping face.
He stared like that, watching her silently for a long while before closing his eyes again.
The next morning, Aveline was woken up by the sound of a vibrating phone.
Her mind was fuzzy, and she thought it was her phone, reaching for the nightstand with her eyes still closed.
She felt herself touch someone and was instantly wide awake, her eyes flying open.
She had forgotten about Xavier.
Xavier had moved his leg back, but one of his hands was still resting on her waist.
His steady, masculine scent was very close.
Aveline turned her head to look at him. Xavier’s handsome, defined features were facing her, his eyes closed, as if he were still sound asleep.
The phone was still vibrating, but it wasn’t her phone on the nightstand; it was Xavier’s phone on the coffee table.
Aveline’s almond–shaped eyes narrowed with a chill. She grabbed Xavier’s hand, threw it aside, and then sat up to get out of bed.
Xavier rolled onto his back and slowly opened his eyes, squinting at her.
His bathrobe had fallen open, revealing a firm, broad chest, with his V–line extending almost to his abdomen, and fur-
ther down…
Aveline glanced once, refusing to look any lower, and coldly bent down to put on her shoes.

Aveline ignored him and went to get her purse. As she passed the coffee table, she saw the phone stop vibrating for a moment, then start again. She took a closer look.
A call from Josephine.
Aveline sneered, grabbed the phone, walked to the window, pulled open the curtains, and slid open the glass door.
Xavier sat up, his dark, deep eyes watching to see what she would do.
Aveline slammed the phone onto the balcony with a loud clatter.
The phone stopped vibrating.
Aveline turned back, not giving Xavier a single glance, not caring about his reaction, and went to get her purse.
She kept a foldable toothbrush in her purse, just in case she needed it at a construction site or when dining out.
Grabbing the toothbrush and a drinking glass, she went to the bathroom to wash up.
From behind her, Xavier finally spoke, “Your morning temper is nuclear.”
When Aveline came out from the bathroom, she saw Xavier standing by the window. He had already picked up the phone, and it wasn’t broken, because he was holding it to his ear, talking.
“Yeah, I’m at Mount Ardwood. Just woke up.”
“I’ll have breakfast, talk to her, then head back to the city.”
Aveline walked over, snatched the phone from his hand, and threw it onto the balcony again.
Xavier turned to look at her, his dark eyes narrowing, as deep and unreadable as a pool, showing no sign of whether he was angry or not.
Aveline shot him a cold glance and went to pour herself a glass of water.
“Are you playing games with me, or just throwing a fit?
I was on the phone with my grandfather.”
Aveline gulped down her water, ignoring him.
Xavier walked out to the balcony and picked up his phone. “Hello, Grandpa?”
Rupert’s voice came through, “What’s going on? What was that noise?”
“I just dropped my phone.
I’ll stop by the Beltran’s mansion when I’m back in the city. Gotta go.”
After hanging up, Xavier glanced at his phone. The screen was cracked in two places.
