“The birthday gift has already been presented. Take Josephine and leave in a bit.”
With that. Xavier walked toward the door.
Gerald was surprised. “Aveline’s just talking. Are you sure she really wants a divorce?”
Xavier snapped, “I’m not a mind reader. How am I supposed to know what she’s thinking?”
“Heh, buddy, you don’t know, but I do. She knows the Patriarch spoils her and that your mom sees her as a Guardian Angel, so there’s no way they’ll agree to a divorce. That’s why she’s using it to threaten you.”
Xavier’s hand paused on the door. He turned back to glare at Gerald. “Then tell me, why won’t she sign the asset distribution agreement?”
Gerald choked on his words, then said, “She… she wants more.”
Xavier scoffed silently, opened the door, and walked out.
He went straight downstairs, ignoring Gerald completely.
Gerald frowned slightly as he watched his tall, imposing figure leave. He thought, if Aveline wants a divorce, just let her have it. He wants one too, so why is he so torn up about it?
Besides, Aveline was the one who asked for the divorce, not him. The Patriarch couldn’t blame him for it.
Gerald thought if he were Xavier, he’d just add fuel to the divorce fire, make it burn hotter, and get rid of that liar Aveline as soon as possible.
He shook his head, thinking Xavier really didn’t know how to handle women, and then went to find Josephine.
Just as Xavier was about to reach the ground floor, he saw Aveline heading toward the balcony.
He went downstairs and followed behind her.
The balcony connected to the restrooms, so Xavier assumed that’s where Aveline was going. But she was standing at the end of the walkway, talking on her phone.

“Yes, Mr. Charles Beltran really liked the carved jade figurines. I could tell he was quite pleased.”
“Mhm, he’s fond of these kinds of little trinkets.”

“It’s getting late. You and Grandma don’t have to wait up for me. I’m going back to Parkview Estates tonight, and I’m heading to Mount Ardwood with my colleagues first thing tomorrow morning.”
Aveline stared at the night view of the garden beyond the balcony, engrossed in her conversation with Collin, and didn’t notice Xavier approaching.
A tall shadow fell over her. For a moment, Aveline didn’t realize it was a person and instinctively flinched, whipping her head around to look.
When she saw it was Xavier, she almost blurted out, “Damn it.”
Aveline frowned slightly, shot him a cold glare, then turned back to face the garden, ignoring him.
Xavier calmly walked over, stopping a couple of steps away from her and also gazing out at the garden.
Aveline said goodnight to Collin, hung up, and turned to leave.
Xavier turned around and blocked her, looking down at her on the dim balcony, his dark eyes gloomy,
“Gerald brought Josephine here on his own; the didn’t invite the Sutton family.”
Aveline said coldly, “None of my business. Move.”
Xavier asked, “You’re really not mad?”
“Mr. Beltran, don’t you think it’s rude to block a guest’s path?”
Aveline said, reaching out to push him.
But Xavier grabbed her hand, “What kind of guest are you? You’re one of the Zimmerman family.”
Aveline tried to pull her hand back, but Xavier tightened his grip.
“How many men has Fiona introduced you to tonight?
She’s so shrewd. All the guests our family invited are prominent people, either powerful or rich.‘
