Chapter 453
Xavier’s expression grew cold. He just hummed in response. “What I said last night wasn’t just me being drunk. Properly investigate Courtney and Josephine.”
“Investigate Jacob, too. He might be involved.”
“Yes, Mr. Beltran. Actually, I already gave the instructions this morning.”
After breakfast, Xavier went upstairs and into Aveline’s study.
His own study was still empty, but Aveline’s had some books and a computer on the desk.
He didn’t plan on going back to live at Winslow Heights. It looked like he’d have to ask Helena to move their things from there back to Parkview Estates.
Maybe he could sell the house at Winslow Heights.
But he still had to discuss it with Aveline. After all, they had lived there for a year. He didn’t know if she was attached to their time there and would be reluctant to sell.
But Josephine lived right across the street. Aveline definitely wouldn’t want to go back there to live.
Thinking of this, Xavier frowned, his expression turning grim.
He didn’t know if Gerald had transferred the title to that house yet. If he had, there was no way to get it back.
The thought that he’d believed Josephine saved him, and had thrown so much money at her, pissed him off.
He had tasked Claude with handling the investment for that movie. Only Claude knew the details, so he’d have to ask him if it could be canceled.
Xavier sat on the sofa, picked up his phone, and called Ryan.
“You know the is funding a movie for Josephine, right?”
“Yes, Mr. Beltran, I’m aware. But I don’t know the details, I didn’t handle it.
“Then go check with the relevant department and see if we can pull the funding.”

Ryan thought for a moment, then asked tentatively. “Mr. Beltran, do you want to pull the funding no matter what?”
“Yes”
“Okay, I’ll look into it and see what I can do.‘
After hanging up. Xavier tapped his phone screen, wondering if he should use Valentina to see Aveline
But in the end, he decided against it. Aveline hadn’t returned to the city last weekend, and this weekend was Collin’s birthday. He would let her have a good weekend with her maternal grandparents.
He picked a book from the bookshelf to read.
It was a novel, clearly an old book with signs of having been read, so Aveline must have read it.
The novel was quite interesting, and Aveline had even underlined sentences she found
interesting.
This actually gave Xavier a little insight into Aveline’s personal tastes.
As he was reading, Helena knocked on the door. Xavier looked up at her, and she said, “Sir, Mr. Henderson is here.”
Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed slightly. He put down the book and walked out.
In the living room downstairs, Gerald seemed restless, pacing back and forth. When he saw Xavier coming downstairs, he stared at him with a deep, heavy gaze.
Xavier could tell his expression was unusual and guessed he must have seen the security footage and known that Josephine wrote the note.
As for what Gerald was thinking, Xavier wasn’t really sure, because he had noticed that Gerald had developed feelings for Josephine.
Xavier sat on the sofa with a cool expression, his hands on the armrests, his dark eyes faint as he said calmly:
“So, what did you find out?”
Gerald didn’t sit down. He stood and pointed at Xavier, “Don’t give me that passive–aggressive
sarcasm.”
“I saw the security footage. Yes, Josie wrote a note and gave it to the front desk clerk, but that
