Chapter 305

Alexander glanced down at his watch and looked at the sun, which was almost set. The sky was full of muted colors like pink, purple, and yellow.

“Olivia, now that I’ve ruined Ethan’s new plan to emotionally manipulate you, I should take you home,” Alexander said calmly.

“How dare you suggest that!” Ethan roared and took a step toward Alexander, but I shuffled in front of him.

“Leave it alone, Ethan,” I warned. “Or I’ll cause a scene.”

My ex–husband narrowed his eyes at Alexander, and then he noticed how serious I was about making a scene. His jaw clenched, but he moved a little to the side.

I began to limp away, but after a moment, Alexander picked me up, crutches and all. My eyes flew open in surprise.

“What are you doing?!” I demanded.

“You were walking too slow,” Alexander explained, his lips twitching. “I want to get you home before the sun sets.”

Before I could come up with a sarcastic remark, Ethan rushed up to our side and let out a loud, cruel laugh.

“Wow, is that why you don’t want to go to our old college?” Ethan asked Alexander. “Because you’re scared of the dark.”

“I’m not even going to dignify that with a response,” Alexander said and continued to stare straight ahead.

I sighed and met Alexander’s eyes. We had a silent conversation. I begged him that we go to my old college to try and get Ethan off my back. Alexander silently said that there was no chance that he would spend any more time with my ex–husband than necessary. I pouted, trying to pull out all the stops.

I knew that I was going to get my way when Alexander stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and looked at Ethan for the first time today.

“Fine, you want to hang around your old school so badly?” Alexander asked. “Let’s make the trip then.”

Ethan glowered and opened his mouth–probably to argue that Alexander shouldn’t come.

“Why don’t you join us in my car?” Alexander said before Ethan could get out a word. “There’s a lot of room. It’s much more spacious than your car.”

I tried to suppress my smile. Alexander’s black Rolls–Royce wasn’t just bigger than Ethan’s red BMW. It was much more expensive. Now that I was looking at the two men’s cars side- by–side, I could see that they were a reflection of them. Ethan’s car was flashy, loud, and demanded attention. Alexander’s car was classy and didn’t need to demand respect. As soon as people saw Alexander and his car, they automatically received respect.

Alexander strode toward his Rolls–Royce while still carrying me. I couldn’t help but be impressed by his strength. I looked behind us and grinned when I noticed that Ethan was following behind us with a surly expression.

Somehow, Alexander opened the passenger door with one hand and still held onto me with the other. Then, he gently lowered me into the passenger seat. He took my crutches and put them in the trunk. Even though I was perfectly capable of putting on my own seatbelt, when he got back, Alexander clipped mine into place. My stomach swooped when I looked up, and his face was only inches away from mine.

When he shut the door, I looked over at the driver’s seat, and a wave of relief washed over me when I saw Gai was sitting there. At least I wouldn’t have to be alone with these two angry men.

When Alexander and Ethan got into the backseat, I was filled with apprehension. I shook my head as I turned to look at them. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d see them sitting together in the backseat. Ethan shifted uncomfortably, and Alexander looked out his window.

I faced the front again, but a weird atmosphere was already filling the car like poisonous gas.

I crossed my arms as Gai started the car. Not even twenty minutes ago, I had decided that I needed to take a break from men, and now I was stuck with my ex–husband and my boss, whom I had slept with.
