Chapter 304
His words made my skin crawl. I was about to argue, but Ethan held his hands
“Okay, I can see that we are at an impasse,” he said. “Why don’t we play rock–paper–scissors on whether or not we should invite one of your friends.”
I gave him a loaded look. When we were a couple, that was a game we would play to settle small, silly things. Like where we should go to dinner or what movie we should watch.
Ethan put his arm out, his palm facing up, and his other hand, he balled up. He raised his eyebrows. “Come on, Olivia. It’s just a silly game.”
I sighed but mirrored his stance even though it made my armpits even more uncomfortable. I would do whatever I had to get this over with as quickly as possible.
“Rock, paper, scissors,” we chanted.
I balled up my fists to choose rock, and Ethan made a peace sign with his hand that represented scissors.
“Yes!” I said, wanting to jump for joy, but I settled for smiling widely. “I get to invite whoever I want.”
Ethan sighed and crossed his arms. “Fine, a deal’s a deal. Which friend would you like to invite?”
“How about me?” said a deep voice behind us.
*Olivia*
My skin tingled with electricity as my head whipped toward the deep voice.
Even though I already knew who it was, my stomach still swooped when my gaze met Alexander’s. He was standing in the middle of the sidewalk, looking like a male model on the cover of a fashion magazine. His black coat wasn’t buttoned and was whipping around him. Alexander’s white shirt was tight and slightly see–through. My mouth dried as I studied the tight, lean muscles of his stomach.
Alexander’s sudden appearance made me freeze. Mixed emotions swirled through me. I was

equally surprised, pleased, and angry to see him
“What the hell are you doing here?” Ethan demanded
Alexander calmly came to a stop in front of us. He completely ignored Ethan. My hands shook slightly when I realized that he only had eyes for me.
“I couldn’t help but overhear that you’re going to visit your alma mater,” Alexander said to me in a gentle voice. A look of concern crossed his face when he noticed my crutches and my wrapped ankle. “Why don’t I join you? I can help you and make sure that you don’t hurt yourself.” He lowered his voice and leaned toward me. “I would love to see where you went to college.”
His deep voice and closeness made me shiver. Our eyes met, and an electric current passed between us. Alexander’s warmth made the tension in my shoulders loosen.
Ethan stepped between us, interrupting our moment. “You’re not coming with us,” he snarled. “You’re not invited.”
“Hang on,” I said and limped closer to Alexander. “We agreed that if I won rock, paper. scissors, I could invite one of my friends.” I gestured to Alexander. “He’s one of my friends.”
“He’s your boss,” Ethan said through gritted teeth and glared at Alexander
His anger made me want to shrink away from him. But I forced myself to stand my ground and act nonchalantly. I shrugged. “So? You were my boss once and my husband,” I pointed
out.
“Now, your ex–husband,” Alexander interjected.
“I repeat, what the hell are you-” Ethan paused and narrowed his eyes as Alexander moved behind me.
My mouth dried as Alexander’s arms gently wrapped around my shoulders, and he pressed the front of his warm body against mine. I couldn’t help but sink back into him. He began to rub
shoulders, and I bit my lip so I wouldn’t moan out loud.
