Of course. Alexander proved my fears were valid when he swung open my bedroom door right after I closed it.

I spun around and glared at him. “Didn’t I just tell you to stay in my room?” I put my hands on my hips. “I remember you agreeing to it since it was less than a minute ago.”

He let out a low chuckle that made my stomach swoop. “I always imagined that my girlfriend would never want to hide me…” Alexander winked, but there was an undercurrent in his voice that I couldn’t decipher.

Part of me wondered if he was upset that I still wanted to hide him, but a thrill went down my spine hearing him calling me his girlfriend.

“I only agreed to be your girlfriend last night,” I reminded him. “Don’t make me regret it.” Then, I put my hand on his muscular chest and gently pushed him back into my room. “Please, just stay here. I need to wrap my head around us as a couple before anyone else knows about our relationship.”

His eyes flashed with pleasure. “I like the sound of you saying we’re in a relationship.” He leaned down and pressed his lips against my cheek.

His warm breath against my skin made me shiver. I moved my head to kiss him on the lips, but another knock on my apartment door made me jump. His closeness had made me completely forget about the person at my door. When I was around him, I always seemed to forget the world around me.

Alexander smirked, winked at me again, and then shut my bedroom door. “I promise to stay here,” he said through the door.

“You better,” I hissed and then limped to the door using my crutches.

When I saw that it was Mike standing on my doorstep, I froze. He was holding two red thermoses and a black ironed suit covered in protective plastic wrap. “It’s nine in the morning,” Mike said in a no–nonsense way. “I brought a suit for Alexander. It’s okay to be late to work, but I wanted to make sure you guys were prepared when you’re ready to start your day.”

Even though there hadn’t been a judgmental tone in his voice, my cheeks still grew warm. I couldn’t believe Mike knew that I had spent the night with Alexander for a second time.

“Is that coffee?” Alexander asked, gesturing to the thermoses.
