At seven that evening. Teresa got a last–minute notice–she had to join an Emergency Department doctor for an on–site emergency
visit.
>
She was just about to finish her shift when the news came, and her mood instantly took a nosedive.
Luckily, the call wasn’t far–it was in a neighborhood less than two kilometers away from the hospital.
The patient was a little kid, so as the on–call pediatrician, Teresa was needed for the case.
Luckily, it was nothing complicated–just a simple flu with a fever.
After getting the child to the hospital, Teresa returned to the department.
After finishing up her last tasks, she was about to stand and stretch when’her phone screen lit up.
She glanced over and saw a text from Richard.
Richard texted: “Teresa, Charles had a few drinks at a work dinner tonight. The driver took me home first. Can you go check on him and help him get back home safe?”
When Teresa saw Richard’s message, she instantly knew what he was up to–trying to set her and Charles up again. ‘Seriously? Matchmaking again?‘ she thought, both amused and exasperated.
She was fully aware of his intentions, but there was just no way to dodge it–saying no
So Teresa could only reply with resignation, “Alright.”
After packing up her things, Teresa left the department.
When she got to the parking lot, she sat in her car, hesitating for a long time.
simply wasn’t an option with Richard.
But after thinking it over, she finally decided to go to the location Richard had sent her.
If she didn’t go, Richard would definitely start asking questions later.
Besides, with Richard’s health not being great, Teresa really didn’t want to be the one to let him down.
When Teresa got to the spot Richard had sent her, she immediately saw Charles’s car parked right out front–it was so obvious, you couldn’t miss it.
Not only did the car totally stand out, but the license plate practically shouted for attention.
After walking into the restaurant, Teresa asked a waiter for directions.
When she reached the door to the VIP room, she realized it was left slightly open.
The door was cracked just enough, and when Teresa peeked through the gap, she spotted Charles and Naomi right away.
Charles was sitting on a stool, his face pale and his eyes vacant as he gazed up at Naomi, who was leaning over him.
As he kept looking at her, he suddenly broke into a smile, then slowly leaned in and pulled her into a firm embrace.
Naomi raised her hand and gently massaged Charles’s temples, teasing him as she did, “See? I kept telling you to drink less, but you just can’t listen. Feeling miserable now, aren’t you?”
Charles wrapped his arms around Naomi’s waist, saying nothing, just nuzzling his face into her belly.
At the same time, Jason’s voice came from inside the room. “Naomi, you’re on Charles–duty tonight”
With that, Jason stood up.
Outside the room, Teresa spotted Jason getting up and immediately pretended to be invisible, turning her face to the wall in mock self-
reflection.
Inside, after a bit of small talk, everyone started to leave.

Finn had also had quite a bit to drink, and Jason was helping him stagger out.
As they passed Teresa, since she was facing the wall, no one even noticed her.
Once Jason helped Finn out, Teresa glanced back into the private room.
This time, only Charles and Naomi remained inside.
Charles had clearly had a lot to drink–he was sprawled across Naomi, completely drunk and not moving an inch.
Since he was still hanging onto her, Naomi gently said, “Charles, it’s time for us to go home.”
Charles tilted his head up at her, his tone soft and a little whiny. “Hug me?”

Naomi was amused by this, and looking down at him with warmth in her eyes, she chuckled, “You’re such a big guy already, yet you still act like a kid.”
Charles said, “Naomi, come closer. I want to tell you something.”
Naomi obediently lowered her head toward him.
But just as she did, Charles suddenly sat up and planted a quick kiss on her.
Naomi’s hand flew to the spot where he’d kissed her. Her eyes sparkled with surprise and shyness as she glared at him. “Charles, you…”
Charles just laughed, bright and carefree.
Teresa quickly and quietly pulled out her phone, snapping a couple of candid photos.
She tapped open her message thread with Richard and started editing the two intimate shots into a new message.
She was very tempted to hit send, but something in her gut told her this wasn’t such a great idea.
If she really sent them and Richard ended up getting upset, she definitely couldn’t afford to take that risk.
In the end, her rational side got the better of her and she held back.
Feeling out of place and realizing she wasn’t needed here at all, Teresa slipped out of the restaurant.
Sitting alone in her car for a long moment, she finally decided to reach out to Wendy Stone.,
She didn’t want to crash at Joyacre Villa, and going back to Sullivan Mansion with her mood in the dumps was the last thing she wanted.
In the end, Wendy’s place was the only place she felt she could go.
As soon as Teresa stepped into Wendy’s apartment, her phone started buzzing–Richard was calling.
Without a second thought, she answered, “Grandpa.”
Richard’s caring voice came through the line, “How about Charles? Did you pick him up?”
Not wanting to make things complicated, Teresa fibbed, “Yeah, I got him.”
Richard asked again, “So, when will you two be coming back?”
Teresa hesitated, then answered, “Grandpa, Charles and 1 aren’t staying at Joyacre Villa tonight.”
Richard laughed, sounding delighted. “Good, good. Maybe you two can hurry up and give me another grandkid—let this old man finally
relax.”
Teresa wanted pothing to do with that topic, so she hurriedly changed gears. Grandpa, Charles is calling for me. I better go,”
She didn’t even wait for Richard to reply before ending the call.
Listening to the busy tone. Richard just chuckled, amused. “Charles is even more raring to go than I ever was–young people these days!
After ending the call. Teresa changed into slippers at the entrance of Wendy’s apartment.
