Chapter 253
Charles’s words held an extra layer of meaning, and when Naomi realized what he was hinting at, her cheeks burned with embarrassment.
She shot him a look, feigning shyness, and said teasingly, “So, what else do you want?”
The morning mist had dampened Naomi’s hair, and a faint smile played at her lips.
She gazed at Charles, her eyes shimmering like a river of stars, full of gentle light.

Charles couldn’t help but laugh at how adorable and captivating she looked. Then he asked, “Would you want to have a baby?”
At that, the smile on Naomi’s face disappeared completely.
In that moment, her face fell and she frowned at Charles. “Didn’t you say having a baby could cost me my life, so you wouldn’t ask me
to?”
Charles’s voice dropped to a murmur. “Yeah.”
Naomi’s brow knit with unease. “Charles, do you still want a son?”
Charles reached out and gently rubbed her cheek, explaining softly, “No, it’s just that Grandpa keeps pressuring me about it.”
Naomi pressed further, “So, what do you really think?”
Charles looked down at her and replied softly, “Let’s just go with the flow.”
Naomi felt a wave of panic wash over her at his words.
She didn’t push the conversation any further. Instead, she claimed she was hungry and sleepy, so Charles would take her home.
On the way back, Naomi kept her eyes closed, pretending to sleep.
Charles stayed quiet the whole way.
*Sullivan Mansion*
Teresa had a restful night and only slowly woke up around 8:30.
She’d taken sick leave because of her health.
Her manager tried to deny her request and even dangled threats about her performance review, but Teresa just told him to dock her performance if he insisted–she couldn’t care less.
Right now, nothing mattered more than her health.
Once she woke up, Teresa didn’t get out of bed right away. Instead, she started browsing on her phone.
As she scrolled through videos, she came across a trending news story.
The headline shouted: [Riverdale’s Top CEO Caught Flirting with His Girlfriend in Public.l
Below the flashy headline was a photo that caught her eye even more.
Naomi was up her tiptoes, leaning in to kiss Charles on the cheek.
When Teresa saw the photo, she instinctively tightened her grip on her phone.
But just then, her phone rang–it was a video call from Wendy
Teresa picked up right away and saw Wendy on the screen, busy styling her hair in front of the camera.
As Wendy fussed with her hair, she asked, “How are you feeling? Any better?
Teresa siled and replied. “Yeah I’m doing much better”

Chapter 253
“Glad to hear it,” Wendy said, sounding relieved.

Teresa spotted how much effort Wendy was putting into her look and teased, “All dressed up? Going to see a guy?”
Wendy paused, then nodded. “Yeah.”
Teresa blinked, suddenly remembering something. “Wait–is that thing you mentioned before, did someone actually do it?”
Wendy nodded again. “Yeah.”
Teresa just couldn’t lie there anymore. She sat up and glared at Wendy through the phone. “Are you out of your mind?”
Wendy gave her a faint smile. “But they really did it.”
Worry crept into Teresa’s voice. “Does that really mean you’ve got to show up just because they pulled it off?”

Wendy let out a helpless sigh. “This is my whole gig–living online, I said the words, and someone actually came through. If I break my promise now, people on the internet will roast me alive. My reputation will tank for real.”
Teresa was still anxious, knowing she couldn’t talk Wendy out of it. “Seriously, how are you going to make sure you’re safe?”
Wendy thought for a moment and said, “Message me every ten minutes. If I don’t reply, call the police.”
Teresa was still worried, but she could only sigh and agree. “Alright,” she murmured, still uneasy.
They chatted for a bit longer before ending the video call.
At 5 PM, Wendy messaged Teresa: “Heading out now.”
Every few minutes, Wendy checked in with another quick update.
Teresa, anxious, kept her eyes glued to her phone, waiting for the next ping.
But after 6:24 PM, Wendy’s updates suddenly stopped.
Ten minutes went by, and Teresa still hadn’t heard from Wendy.
Without a second thought, Teresa called the police.
But the police just brushed her off.
Teresa was frantic. Dragging her exhausted body, she left the Sullivan Mansion and got in her car.
Out on the road, she kept trying to call Wendy, but it kept ringing with no one picking up.
Her car was rolling forward when another vehicle suddenly pulled up and stopped right in front of her.
Teresa hit the brakes and not giving up, tried calling Wendy again.
But there was still no answer.
She glanced up–sull no sign that the car ahead was planning to move,
So she pressed the horn.
The car in front was parked head on, blocking Teresa’s path.
Teresa needed to get through, so she had no choice but to stop and wait.
After hunking, Teresa peered through her windshield into the little car that was blocking her way.
She couldn’t see anyone in the driver’s seat, but the whole car kept rocking back and forth.
If the car was moving like that, someone had to be inside.
