Chapter 4
Chapter 4
During Kate’s two days of unconsciousness, Derek would come to her bedside every day, confessing and crying
She listened silently, feeling nothing inside, deceiving herself by refusing to wake up.
Until the third day
Kate heard a female voice sobbing pitifully. “Derek, it’s all my fault. Kate was jealous and deliberately knocked over the candelabra.i should have pushed you to save her instead, then this wouldn’t have happened…”
Then came Derek’s gentle voice. “Kate’s always been like this, throwing tantrums. How could I blame you for that?”
“But I feel so guilty…” Ashley was choking back tears.
Derek’s tone suddenly became playful. “Really guilty? Then I’ll have to punish you.”
Ashley froze, not understanding what he meant, but then her lips were sealed by his.
Their tongues intertwined as Derek whispered hoarsely in her ear, “Your punishment is we don’t stop kissing for half an hour.”
Ashley’s face turned bright red.
Kate’s fingers curled tightly, her heart bleeding with pain.
The intimate sounds in her ears grew louder and her stomach cramped. She couldn’t help but throw up.
Only then did Derek realize she was awake. He frantically let go of Ashley.
He asked with concern, “Kate, how are you feeling?”
Then he added, “Ashley already told me the truth. Even though you knocked over the candelabra, she said she won’t hold you responsible. Getting hurt this time is punishment enough.”
Punishment.
Kate clenched her fists and finally couldn’t help asking, “Punishment?”
Punishment for what?
Derek pressed his lips together and became slightly more serious. “Alright, you both made mistakes. I already punished Ashley too. It’s fair. This matter ends here.”
Kate almost laughed out loud.
One person got their head smashed and fell unconscious, the other got kissed for half an hour.
What wonderfully fair punishment!
Kate felt so sad. Love and lack of love were crystal clear.
“Fine, let’s end it here.” She agreed flatly, no longer wanting to argue or dwell on it.
Derek frowned, somehow feeling her reaction was strange.

Chapter 4
He comforted himself thinking Kate probably just woke up and hadn’t recovered yet.
To put her at ease, Derek specially organized a cocktail party.
Among the clinking glasses, Derek held Kate’s hand tightly, like he was holding his most precious treasure.
He introduced her to everyone. “This is my wife, Kate.”
The guests around them were full of envy. “Mr. Stone is so handsome, his wife is so beautiful they’re a perfect match!”
“Exactly! I heard Mr. Stone spent a fortune to marry his wife back then, and now he’s throwing this party for her. He really loves her
to the bone!”
Listening to these comments, Derek smiled smugly and whispered to Kate, “Did you hear that? They all say they envy us.
“Really?”
Kate’s response was flat and expressionless.
Just then, a phone started ringing urgently.
He answered – “Derek! Amazing news! The brand we’ve been trying to partner with agreed to meet! Get over here now, same place!”
Derek’s hand holding the phone hesitated slightly. “But I’m currently…”
“Stop talking nonsense! The brand people said we only have one hour – take it or leave it!”
Ashley spoke rapidly then hung up.
Derek hesitated for a long time. Below the stage, camera flashes and envious voices were still focused on the two of them.
He made up his mind. “Sorry Kate, I have a business deal to handle right now-”
“Look, all these people are watching us.” Kate gently interrupted, her voice almost softening. “If you leave now, it’ll be really embarrassing for me.”
