When Marcus and I arrived at the company, the livestream had just ended, and a crowd of shareholders and board members were surrounding River.

“Winston Group is lucky to have you. Without Mr. Reed, Winston Group would’ve vanished into history.”

“Ever since old Mr. Winston passed, the company’s been on a downward spiral. Thank God Mr. Reed secured this bank loan, or we wouldn’t know what to do.”

“That’s why young Ms. Winston just isn’t cut out for this. All these years, she’s ignored company affairs, and the products she developed couldn’t sell for decent prices. Good thing she married well.”

Everyone chimed in while River stood at the center, barely able to hide his smugness.

I let out a cold snort.

“I had no idea Winston Group had changed its name to Reed Group.”

Only then did everyone notice me, all eyes turning in my direction.

I nodded at Marcus, and he understood, distributing the documents in his hands to all the shareholders present.

River had no clue what Marcus was handing out. Though clearly anxious inside, he had to put on a concerned front.

“Maya, aren’t you supposed to be in the hospital? What brings you to the company at this hour?”

“What are you giving the shareholders? New product development plans? I…”

Before River could finish, I hurled the documents in my hands right at his face.

“You’re really something, River! I bust my ass staying up all night doing R&D, and you turn around and sell it to clients with dual contracts! Hundreds of employees pour their hearts into this company, and you funnel all the profits into your own pocket!”

“And now the investment I worked so hard to secure from the bank has become your achievement!”

“River Reed, I don’t know if you’re too good an actor or I’m too stupid, but I never realized you were such a backstabbing

parasite!”

With every word I spoke, River’s face got whiter, but he still wouldn’t give up.

“M–Maya, there must be some misunderstanding. Even though you haven’t been at the company these years, you knew about every business deal. How could what you’re saying have happened?”

“Did someone whisper something in your ear? Don’t listen to gossip. I’m your husband–don’t you trust me?”

A shareholder nearby snorted coldly and slammed the documents on the table.

“Mr. Reed, you’re quite the young talent with impressive methods! Without the evidence Ms. Winston brought, us old folks would still be in the dark!”

River frantically tried to explain, but I wasn’t giving him the chance. I raised my hand to stop him.

“Starting today, I, Maya Winston, will personally take over all company operations. From this moment on, River Reed is banned from setting foot in this company!”

Even now, what I’m most grateful for is Dad’s decision before he passed.

Before Dad died, he constantly reminded me that Winston Group was the Winston family’s foundation and that outsiders
