The moment my lawyer spoke, all the cameras and eyes in the room focused on me.

My lawyer gave me a look, then produced the first piece of prepared evidence.

Transfer records from River to Vivian.

Starting from the first month River and I were married three years ago, River had been transferring one million dollars to Vivian every month.

Three years, thirty–six months–thirty–six million dollars total!

The moment the transfer records appeared, the entire courtroom erupted.

“My God, what does this mean? A million a month? Didn’t River say this woman was his sister? Who gives their sister that much money?”

“You don’t know the half of it. I heard this Vivian Reed isn’t actually River’s real sister–she’s their family’s adopted daughter. Now I’m thinking she’s definitely more than just an adopted daughter–probably his mistress.”

“Exactly! No wonder Ms. Winston wants a divorce. What woman could stand this?”

The murmuring was loud enough that River’s face went ghost white–he clearly never expected me to have records of his transfers to Vivian.

River’s mother quickly stood up to explain.

“This is money River asked me to help them save! Everyone knows young people these days spend money carelessly. Maya lost her parents, and River’s father and I are her in–laws–of course we can help manage their household.”

“Doesn’t this prove that our River wants to build a good life with her?”

Hearing this, Vivian perked up and stood to defend River.

“Maya! Stop slandering the relationship between my brother and me! My brother and I may not be blood siblings, but we grew up together–we’re no different from real siblings. Stop projecting your dirty thoughts onto us!”

“In all the years you’ve been married, everyone knows how good my brother has been to you. You clearly just want to dump him and are making up these high–sounding excuses! Everyone here is smart–you think you can smear us with just some transfer records? Dream on!”

Hearing River’s mother and Vivian’s words, people in the courtroom nodded in agreement.

“True, everyone knows Ms. Winston found herself a good husband. His background might not be great, but he’s really devoted to her–a model husband.”

“Look how worked up his sister is getting–she’s probably really being wronged. Understandable too, since she’s a young woman and unmarried. Nobody could accept being slandered like this.”

“What River’s mom said makes sense too.”

Seeing everyone believe their words, River jumped at the chance to put on a pained act.

“Maya, we’ve been married three years. I’ve managed the company for you publicly and practically worshipped you privately, terrified you’d be the least bit unhappy. How can you be such cruel to me?”

“Please, Maya, I don’t want to divorce you. I love you. Let’s go home, okay?”
