The bartender hesitated, unable to keep his doubts to himself.
Such talk was obviously nonsense, completely unbelievable. Could a man as distinguished as him really believe these absurd rumors?
Though he thought this, the bartender said nothing, simply arranged for someone to escort Nathaniel home and told a well–intentioned lie.
“Sir, you’re drunk. Go home and rest, and you’ll see the person you want to see.”
Hearing this, Nathaniel’s cold eyes flickered. He nodded and obediently followed the attendant out.
He wasn’t completely unconscious; he just wanted to fool himself.
What if the rumor was true?
The driver took Nathaniel home. After getting out of the car and seeing the villa with not a single light on, a wave of bitterness welled up in his heart.
From now on, no one would ever wait for him at home again.
Nathaniel didn’t enter the villa, but went straight to the underground cold storage.
As soon as the cold storage door opened, a bone–chilling cold instantly crept over his body, making him shiver involuntarily.
He wore only a thin shirt, yet showed no intention of putting on more clothes.
He walked resolutely toward the open casket, sat down beside it, and slowly closed his eyes.
Yet even after countless glasses of strong liquor, he still felt no trace of sleepiness.
Not even a single hallucination resembling Genevieve appeared before his eyes.
“Genny, I miss you so much. Why are you so cruel, unwilling even to enter my dreams and let me see you one more time? Do you really hate me that much?”
“I know, it’s my fault. I failed to help you get a kidney transplant. If you want to blame me or

punish me, that’s fine. Just don’t refuse to see me like this–anything else is fine.”
Nathaniel opened the open casket, gently stroked her face, and spoke softly.
Drunk and dazed, he felt as if he had returned to the past.
When he was young, after confessing to her, he thought they would be together forever.
If not for the illness, perhaps they really could have fulfilled their promise to love and be happy for a lifetime.
It was his fault; he shouldn’t have developed feelings for Elaine while trying to save Genevieve.
It was all his fault.
Nathaniel was overwhelmed with regret, even feeling a strong urge to die right then and
there.
Dying here didn’t seem so bad; at least he could stay with Genevieve forever.
What meaning was left in a world without her?
He already owed her so much. He had once promised that if she died, he would follow her in death.
Now, it was time to fulfill that promise.
Nathaniel took out a dagger he had prepared long ago, wrote instructions for his affairs, and sent them to his assistant, entrusting him to arrange for him and Genevieve to be buried together.
After confirming the message was sent, he turned off his phone, ignoring any further messages from his assistant.
Once everything was arranged, Nathaniel climbed into the open casket, lay down beside Genevieve, held her hand, gripped the dagger with her, and stabbed it forcefully into his
chest.
Blood gushed out instantly, almost staining the entire open casket red.
Nathaniel managed a weak smile. “Genny, I’m sorry. I’ve hurt you too many times. Now… let me repay all your suffering with my life. In the next life, let’s never be apart again, okay?”
