Who is Your Choice (Genevieve and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 9

Genevieve lay quietly on the operating table, her face pale and her lips devoid of color. She looked like a delicate doll, silent and motionless, never to awaken again.

Alas.Genevieve’s doctor, Jaime Bowman, sighed deeply, unable to bear the sight, and kept calling Nathaniel over and over.

The sound of the phone dialing echoed countless times, but no one ever answered.

It was obvious that Nathaniel had already turned off his phone.

Genevieve had no other family, so there was no one to notify to claim her body.

Jaime and the nurses were helpless; they could only move her to the morgue for temporary storage, waiting for Nathaniel to come and take her away the next day.

Meanwhile, outside the house, a fierce wind was blowing, thunder and lightning raged, and Nathaniel was holding Elaine, gently patting her back to comfort her.

Don’t be afraid, I’m here. The thunder will pass soon, nothing will happen.

MmElaine nestled in his arms, her slender body trembling with every clap of thunder.

Yet in the corner where Nathaniel couldn’t see, there was not a trace of fear on her face; instead, her lips curled up ever so slightly.

Nathaniel didn’t notice; he just absentmindedly patted her back, soothing her in a gentle voice.

But a strange pain inexplicably welled up in his chest, prickling and uneasy.

He pressed his lips tightly together, feeling as if something unbearable had happened at that very moment.

No, nothing will happen.

Nathaniel steeled his gaze, trying to reassure himself.

As long as today passed, tomorrow he could take Elaine to give Genny a kidney, and Genny would surely be fine.

He forcibly suppressed the sense of unease in his heart, carried Elaine to the bed, tucked her in, and sat on the chair by the bedside, holding her hand and speaking softly:

Go to sleep now, it’s getting late. I’ll stay here with you tonight. With me here, you don’t have to be afraid of the thunder outside.

Elaine shrank back twice, and seeing his concern, she tugged at his sleeve.

Nate, you’ve been tired all day. Sitting here all night can’t be comfortable. This bed is big enough for two. Why don’t you sleep with me? You need to rest so you can be ready for the surgery with me and Genny tomorrow.

Nathaniel hesitated for a moment, but still refused.

No need, you just sleep. I’m not tired. Our onemonth relationship agreement has expired, so I’m not your boyfriend anymore. If Genny found out, she’d definitely get jealous and throw a fit.

Mentioning Genevieve, he smiled helplessly.

Genny was already jealous about us before, and she was upset for a long time. I don’t want her to misunderstand again.

Elaine lowered her eyes, her gaze dimming. She felt a bit dissatisfied, but pretended to understand.

Alright then, I’ll try to sleep. You promised to stay with me, so you can’t leave me tonight.

As she spoke, she entwined her fingers with Nathaniel’s, stubbornly refusing to let go.

Nathaniel frowned slightly, but said nothing more and let her be.

After turning his phone back on, he saw countless missed calls from Jaime, which made him feel a bit puzzled.

Maybe it was just Genny insisting that Elaine donate her kidney, which was why Jaime called so many times.

Since it was already late, he didn’t call Jaime back, thinking that everything would be resolved tomorrow.

Early the next morning, Nathaniel took Elaine to the hospital to find Jaime.
