Chapter 10
Jaime’s words struck Nathaniel like a bolt of lightning on a clear day, echoing through his mind and shaking his very soul.
A violent buzzing filled his ears; he could barely hear anything and was unable to react at all.
“How is that possible… how could it be?!” Nathaniel’s pupils contracted sharply, and his lips trembled in disbelief.
“No way, Genny was in good health, there was nothing wrong with her at all, how could she possibly die? It was just one day late for her kidney transplant, just one day!”
“Did Genevieve bribe you to play along with her, to punish me for not giving her the transplant as promised yesterday? Stop it, this joke isn’t funny at all! Where is she now? Tell me right now!”
He suddenly grabbed Jaime by the collar, shouting in anger.
His eyes quickly filled with bloodshot red, and the veins on his hands bulged with the force of his grip.
“Let go of me…” Jaime struggled to pry Nathaniel’s hand away, gasping desperately for air.
“Ms. Kershaw really has passed away. Several doctors and nurses witnessed and declared her death yesterday. If you don’t believe it, just go to the morgue and see for yourself!”
“I didn’t even know Ms. Kershaw, there’s no reason for me to lie for her, and I couldn’t possibly do it. Believe it or not, it’s up to you. But if you don’t claim her body, it’ll be sent straight to the crematorium, and you won’t even get to see her one last time!”
Hearing this, Nathaniel’s hand slowly dropped powerlessly, a deep sorrow spreading through his heart.
His eyes lowered slightly, and in their darkness was nothing but fragility and pain.
How could this happen? Everything was fine just yesterday, it was only a single day–how could a living person just die like that?
She had clearly promised him that after the transplant, they would be together for a lifetime,

never to be separated.
Now, with only the final step left and everything ready, how could she have left him first?
Nathaniel unconsciously bit the corner of his lip, so hard that he broke the skin and blood slowly stained his lips, making him look as dark and despairing as a demon.
“Genny promised me she’d be with me forever. She can’t have left. I have to go see for myself and expose your lies!”
He muttered to himself in denial, striding quickly toward the morgue.
Elaine felt an indescribable joy in her heart–Genevieve was finally dead, and from now on, no one would compete with her for Nathaniel!
The man she had fallen for at first sight would now belong to her alone.
From now on, she would take Genevieve’s place, be with Nathaniel forever, and live happily ever after!
Elaine forcibly suppressed the smile tugging at her lips and hurried after him to offer comfort.
“Nate, maybe you shouldn’t go to the morgue. Maybe you’re right, maybe Genny is still alive and all of this is just part of her plan.”
“You locked her in the morgue once before because of me. Maybe this time she’s just trying to lure you there on purpose, still jealous and upset about what happened before, and wants to get back at me!”
Nathaniel didn’t hear a single word of her rambling; he just walked toward the morgue with a grim face.
No matter what, he had to see for himself!
The door to the morgue opened, and a bone–chilling cold quickly spread through his entire body.
Led by the staff, Nathaniel saw Genevieve’s body.
