Chapter 49

She looked like she’d walked out of a photoshoot titled Deadly and Delicious. Black cargo pants hugged her, a black crop top bared a stomach flat enough to shame every ab workout I’d ever tried, her combat boots were even more fitting on the ground as she rounded the car with her high ponytail swinging behind her neck.
Fierce didn’t even begin to describe her. She was gorgeous!
And she was with him.
Void came out from the passenger’s side, hands shoved into his hoodie’s front pocket. They stood close and for over a minute, spoke quietly.
An unfamiliar feeling skittered down my gut. Who was she? Eric had mentioned only him and Miles worked closely with Void. Not a word about a pretty sidekick with attitude and abs.
After what felt like an eternity–even though it had only been a minute–the lady opened the backseat, grabbed some bags and started walking towards the house with him.
If he had such a pretty lady with him, why didn’t he just make her his woman rather than coming to haunt me?
I turned towards the door when it opened. My pulse spiked as Void stepped in and darted his eyes around, as if searching for someone. His gaze snagged on me by the window and stayed there.
“Welcome, boss,” Eric piped up from the kitchen doorway. “I’m sure your girl can attest to the fact that I was a stellar companion while you were away.”
Void didn’t so much as blink in his direction as his steps led him straight to me. He peeled off his black gloves as he walked, tucking them into his pants pocket with the casual menace of someone who could strangle you barehanded if the mood struck.
“Hey.” I would always hate how cold and honeyed his voice was. “Do you feel well?”
Staring at him, all I could see was the man who had forced himself on me just hours ago. The man who had whipped, hurt and bruised me to get what he wanted. And it was even more painful that there was nothing I could do about it.
“I need to leave.” The words rasped out of me.
The lady made her way in and stopped dead when her gaze landed on us. Correction: on me.
A twitch of irritation flared in her eyes. I didn’t know why I matched it with my own glare, but I did.
“Where do you want these, boss?” She asked, her eyes not leaving mine.
Void didn’t even turn. “The second room.”
“Please, tell me you got those chips,” Eric said as he tailed her upstairs.
“Fuck off, dude. I owe you nothing.”
“Oh, don’t be such a bitch, Katya. You do not need to owe a man to show him kindness. You need to start getting familiar with the basic terminology of human life.”
Katya. So, that was her name. She clearly worked directly with Void, which meant she must be special to him.

“Did you enjoy your meal? Or do you need something else?” He had the nerve to sound concerned. It made my skin itch.
“I want to go. I need to report to work.”
He tilted his head. “I’m having you for the week, Rali.”
What?!
“Wh–What’re you talking about? I have to-”
“I am aware your company permits a maximum of one week leave upon request, four times a year. You haven’t used any for this year. So here’s what will happen: you’ll email your boss and tell him you won’t be returning until next week.”
He walked away from me, going to the kitchen.
Oh! He had to be kidding me!
“I–I can’t stay here!” My voice was near a shout as I followed him and not a psychopath’s lair.
“Get used to it,” he replied flatly, not even bothering to glance back.
“No! I can’t be here for the entire week. I–I have a life to return to!”
“This is your life now, Rali. Get fucking used to it.”
“I DON’T WANT TO! I don’t want to be anywhere
yar you!”
to the kitchen that looked like it belonged in a magazine
Grabbing the mug in front of him, he tossed it against the wall. The ceramic shattered like my nerves, and I jumped with a shriek.
He turned around to face me. Thank goodness I’d kept a good distance between us.
“You keep saying things like that, Rali, and I’ll be forced to leave a mark on your face.”
Tears stung my eyes. Fuck, I hated how controlling he was.
I wrapped my hands around myself and lowered my gaze. How could I spend the whole week with him? What fresh kind of hell would that bring?
“Leave. All of you.”
I blinked up, realizing he wasn’t talking to me, I turned to find the trio watching the scene,
Eric offered a half–amused, half–pitying smile. Miles‘ face was impassive and gave nothing away. Katya looked at me like I was a peasant.
“Take care, boss. We’ll handle the rest as discussed,” Eric said with the dip of his head.
The others nodded and finally, all three were gone, leaving me with the monster.
