You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 231

“Hello, this is express delivery. I have some documents from the Martin Group that need Ms. Ruby’s signature.”

The delivery guy stood at the gate of the Martin family’s mansion, waving the envelope at the housekeeper.

The housekeeper remembered her orders. “Just give it to me. I’ll pass it on.”

“Sorry, I need Ms. Ruby to sign for it herself,” the delivery guy said, not backing down.

“She’s taking her afternoon nap. She won’t be up for at least two hours. If you really need her, you’ll have to come back later,” the housekeeper replied, holding her ground.

“Can’t you just call her?” The delivery guy looked desperate. “If I can’t deliver this, I’ll get a penalty.”

“We won’t complain,” the housekeeper said, still stubborn.

After a long, awkward pause, the delivery guy finally gave up. He trudged back to his van, slammed the door, and took off, grumbling, “Five grand, gone just like that. Seriously?”

Here’s what happened.

Some woman had stopped him at the foot of the hill earlier, asking him to check if the infamous Ruby from the Martin family was really crippled. The deal was simple: catch a glimpse of her, get five thousand bucks. Easy money, or so he thought. He had a delivery anyway, just had to insist on a signature and get a look at her.

But he never even saw her face.

Nina waited in her car nearby, hiding behind a hat and mask, watching as he walked back looking utterly defeated. She didn’t even have to ask. “Didn’t see her, huh?”

He shook his head. “Nothing.”

She figured as much.
