You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 238

For a split second, Patricia felt like a little kid again.

She remembered falling asleep in her mom’s arms, the gentle pats and soothing words whenever she turned over in her sleep.

“You never nap during the day,” she said, a little confused.

Oliver was the type of guy who ran on pure adrenaline, always busy, never tired, always moving.

“Yeah,” he admitted. Today was different. He hadn’t slept at all last night.

He couldn’t stop thinking about Patricia not coming home. He was sure she’d done it on purpose, that she was upset with him. But he kept turning it over in his mind, trying to figure out why she was mad.

So he barely slept a wink.

They were still in bed, tangled up together, neither in a hurry to get up.

Oliver’s phone buzzed on the nightstand. He rolled over to grab it, and a blast of cold air from the AC slipped under the covers, making Patricia pull the blanket tighter around herself.

“Hm?” she mumbled.

“Send it to me,” he said into the phone.

He ended the call in just a few words, then leaned back and pulled Patricia closer, scrolling through his messages.

“Mrs. Martin’s at a nursing home in Blue Ridge. She changed her name, so that’s why you couldn’t find her,” he told her quietly.

Patricia shot up, about to get out of bed, but Oliver caught her and gently pulled her back. “Take it easy. Lie down. I’ll get your pajamas. Otherwise, your leg’s going to hurt again.”

She hated the cold. Or more specifically, her injured leg did.

Any time she wore a skirt or shorts during the day, she’d have to soak in the bath or use essential oils to massage her leg at night.

Oliver handed her the pajamas, and Patricia slipped them on. She started to reach for his phone, but paused, her fingers hovering just above it. She glanced at Oliver, a silent question in her eyes.

It was his phone, after all.
