You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 383

The next morning, Patricia woke up to find that Oliver was already gone. The sheets on the bed had been swapped out for a fresh set, a cool and spotless shade of gray. She was dressed in soft cotton pajamas, and as she rolled over in bed, she couldn’t help but wonder what time the ever-diligent Mr. Padilla had finally called it a night.

After getting changed, Patricia made her way downstairs, but Oliver was nowhere in sight. Marian met her at the bottom of the stairs with a bright smile. “Morning. Mr. Padilla left early and told us not to wake you.”

“Come eat breakfast,” she added, ushering Patricia toward the table.

Patricia set her phone aside without thinking much about it. She’d just picked up her spoon to try the oatmeal when her phone started ringing.

Nina didn’t waste time on pleasantries. “Grandma had a stroke.”

“Oh?” Patricia answered, sounding almost bored.

Nina, still lying in bed, was caught off guard by Patricia’s flat reaction. “You didn’t know?”

“Nope.”

“Patricia, I don’t buy that.”

“Believe me or don’t, it doesn’t change the fact that I didn’t know.”

Nina’s voice sharpened. “If you really didn’t know, why did you tell me to give Grandma those pills?”

She just couldn’t accept that Patricia wasn’t behind this. Someone as calculating as Patricia—there’s no way she’d just let Grandma off the hook so easily.

“What pills?” Patricia’s voice was cool and impossible to read.

She had no intention of playing into Nina’s accusations. What needed doing was already done, and Patricia made sure there was nothing that would come back to her. As for Nina, Patricia had plenty of ways to handle her.

“Ms. Miller, don’t forget—you’re meeting me at Obsidian tonight at eight.”

Patricia didn’t give her a chance to respond, just hung up and went back to her breakfast.

Meanwhile, Nina stared at her phone in frustration. Obsidian? She pulled up her maps app and quickly realized it was a private club. She had no idea what Patricia was planning, but right now, there wasn’t much else she could do.
