You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 399

The first shot missed.

Theo’s reflexes kicked in. He grabbed Patricia by the shoulder and shoved her out of the line of fire, bracing for a second shot.

But nothing happened.

Instead, Patricia just grinned—a wild, dangerous smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “What are you waiting for, Theo?”

She brushed his hand off her shoulder and closed the distance between them, step by step. “Waiting for your second chance?”

“Are you trying to kill me?” she taunted.

Patricia shoved her palm against his chest, forcing him back until he was half-hidden by the tree. Then she reached into her coat pocket, pulled out a compact pistol, and pressed it right to his chest. “I took care of your mom and your grandma. I could’ve let your family off easy. But you—you just had to make this a fight to the death, didn’t you?”

“I told you ages ago, Theo. If you see me, run the other way. Why won’t you listen?”

Theo glanced at the gun pointed at his chest, eyes steady. No fear, just defiance. He stepped closer. “Patricia, if you really want to, go ahead. Pull the trigger.”

She let out a cold laugh. “That’d be way too simple. There’s a lot you still don’t know.”

“As long as you’re in Riverdale, I’ve got a thousand ways to make you suffer. Slow and painful—just enough to make you wish you were dead.”

Theo’s hands curled into fists at his sides, anger burning through him. If he just reached out and wrapped his hands around her neck, could he end this? The moves from those self-defense classes flashed through his mind—over and over, almost instinct.

And then he went for it.

Normally, Patricia was untouchable. No job, no business, nothing he could use to pin her down. No fixed address. Half the time, he couldn’t even find her. She always said she had nothing to lose.

But the Newtons? They had everything—companies, reputations, social standing. So much that could be taken away.

Patricia had nothing. Her few relatives were either in the military or locked away in government labs—places Theo could never reach.

Opportunities like this didn’t come around often.

Theo yanked the gun from Patricia’s hand and shoved her hard against the tree, his fingers closing around her throat. He pulled his fist back and punched, but Patricia twisted away and his fist slammed into the tree’s rough bark.
