“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Those online comments are hilarious. Go take a shower already!”

“You’re all sweaty and you stink.”

Oliver stood by the bed for a moment, looking down at her. He couldn’t help but enjoy the spark in her eyes, the way her brows danced. She was like a sly little rabbit—completely adorable.

She had so much on her mind all the time, but right now? She actually seemed carefree.

After a moment, he reached out, cupped her face, and kissed her—hard.

His rough fingertips slid from behind her ear, gliding down through her soft, silky hair.

As the first light of morning broke through the sky, people all over the city were heading home after long nights on the job.

The police station was no different.

Brandon had spent half the night dealing with a bunch of punk kids who smashed windows and tried to steal from local shops. He’d given them a scare, then dropped the whole group back at their parents’ doors.

He got out of his car, his palm still red and sore, and walked inside.

He headed straight for the old sergeant’s desk and grabbed a bottle of liniment.

“What’s up, Brandon? Rough night?”

“If the parents won’t do it, we have to. Those brats are tough—I think my hand hurts more than they do.”

Brandon called back as he walked over to the group of coworkers huddled around a phone.

“What’s so interesting? Got some juicy gossip?”

“Brandon, it’s not gossip this time. It’s a guy.”

Brandon grinned, rubbing his hand as he leaned in. “Must be some guy if you’re all glued to your screens. Let me see.”
